Rise of the Snow Forest.

The Question: Welcome back to E3, hope all of you at home are having a great day. Right now we are at the Snow Forest booth, and standing next to me is Christopher Jung. How are you today Chris?

I'm good and you?

The Question: “I’m good, now there are some folks out that don’t know who you are, so would you mind telling them?

Sure thing, I’m the Co-owner and a game designer of the Snow Forest game company.

Question: So you’re one of the big wigs?

That’s right; the other is John H. Peirce, who couldn’t make it today.

Question: That’s too bad but, since you’re here, I have a question for you. What we all want to know is what initially inspired you to enter this field?”

Well, that is a hard question to answer without a bit of a story to go along with it. See, I wish I could claim that a great game or game designer was the inspiration to become a game designer but the truth was more of a stumbled discovery. I mean my inspiration is going to sound silly but, it was my old job, an old memory and finally the encouragement of my best friend. See it all started with my not so glamorous new position as a light bulb changer at Worlds of Fun, of which I fell into due to a few lucky breaks, good timing, and knowing the right people.

Question: Oh so a light bulb changer?

Well it was later changed to lighting technician, so it sounded a bit more important.

Question: -laughs- I beat it did, so who offered you the job?

Well the position was offered by the head electrician Tim. I was going to change light bulbs, or at least that was my interpretation but that change quickly. Instead I was being taught all kinds of new things, such as wiring up conduit and rewiring old buildings. By doing so I found my creative spark again, the work was fun and the people were willing to teach me anything I asked of them. I know it sounds a little weird but it helped me change my way of thinking and it made me think, what did I really want to do with the rest of my life.

Question “Wow, changing light bulbs really help light a new path for you.”

Haha funny..

Question: So if you didn’t want to change light bulbs for the rest of your life, what did you want to do?

I had to ask myself just that, what did I really want to do, what could I see myself doing for the rest of my life and could enjoy doing it? I ended up debating with myself for about a month, during that time I came up with all kinds of ideas but kept hitting a dead end, after a week of no new ideas; I went and talked to my best friend John. You might know him as Kiyo, the co-owner of Snow Forest.

Question: To bad he couldn’t be here today, it would have been nice to hear his side of this story. So, what did you guys talk about?

Well I remember asking him what he thought I should do; at first he was drawing a blank as well. He brought up art and I shot that down, because I had already done that before. I had gone to college for that and I can tell you it wasn’t for me. He then brought up the job I already had and told me that I should get an apprenticeship at W.O.F, as an electrician. I had almost decided that was my best bet, after all I did enjoy the work, as well as the people. The only problem was that they weren’t offering any apprenticeships at the time, nor did it seem that they would be any time soon. So once again I hit a dead end, and then John just smiled and reminded me about something I had said when I was 21.

Question: When you were 21? What did you said back then?

Apparently I had said that the gaming industry as a whole was crashing around itself and that the fans weren’t getting what they deserved. He told me that I had once talked about opening my own video game company called Snow Forest. I didn’t remember it at first, but after a few minutes of mulling it over it dawned on me. The reason was because of a game I had played back then, the game itself was not important. What had been important was that the game had been overpriced, it underperformed, and they wanted you to pay for downloadable content that was already on the disc. I remember feeling so betrayed by the game company. That they would let such a thing like this enter the market and then they would demand more money for something you already paid for. John then told me that I would make a great game designer, as they usually are the ones who come up with ideas for games. Then he reminded me that he was there and if I needed help he would have my back, and when I got ready to get my game company off the ground he would be there to help me in any way he could.

The Question: Nice, is that the entire story?

I would like to say that there was more to this story, but there really isn’t. I chose game design because I want to change the gaming world through knowing how to make games and because I am good at coming up with new and creative ideas, as well as drawing up interesting looking characters. That and for as long as I can remember I wanted to make games but, what I had forgotten was why. My new job and John reminding me about what I had said helped spark my creative side once again. This allowed me to think about what I really wanted to do and owning my own game company is what I inspired to accomplish. So that is what inspired me to enter the field of game design.

Question: Thank you very much Mr. Jung, now we will be heading over to the Sony booth to hear about the new PlayStation 5.

Spoilers Ahead...duh….

Fluffy here, been a while since I have done this, so here we go -coughs- I am vengeance, I am the night, I am….the fucking batmobile…….really?

Okay I am not going to jump up and down to much on this game but, really the batmobile is what everyone was so hyped for, you mean the clunky transformer? An tanks, why would I want to play as batman driving a tank? There are far better tank games out there, that I don’t play, and I damn sure don’t want batman in a tank ever…..

That glaring issue aside, is this as good as previous Arkham games…...no not by far, I found the ground work clunky and glitchy. An I can tell you if it wasn’t for the fact you get to save and fight as Catwomen I would never touch the Riddler challenges, if I wanted to race where there where things trying to kill me I would pull out Twisted Metal and go to town. In all reality the Batmobile was not needed, and could have been cut from the game and a gadget that lets you take over the tanks like the hacking feature you get for the batmobile, except you're on the roof controlling it. An why is it needed to fight tanks every five seconds. I felt every time I went around a corner there was a tank. I get it Rocksteady, you made tanks, congrats now stop forcing it down my throat and let me be the MOTHER FUCKING BATMAN. 

An this is what I felt was lacking in this 3rd installment of a great series, was the Batman feel, I mean it's there sometimes, and feels very much like a great thing when you slip into the stealthy takedown what gadget to use to make them piss themselves with fear. Talking about fear…..Scare Crow? That is the best villain we could get are hands on? An he is going to release toxins into the air to make you scream like a sissy girl…..wait didn’t several movies the last few years have the same idea, okay not the fear part but, to release toxins into the air to mutate or spread a virus that would kill the city. 

In the two movies I am thinking of was that not a stupid plot? How an the hell does no one point that out, okay so Scare Crow pulls his off but, the only people affected are the lowest of the low in Gotham, though it would have spread farther if not for Batman. All the trash in Gotham is going to go mad and kill one another due to the fear gas, job done pack it in for a few hours then go shut it down. Okay that isn’t very Batman like but, really at this point who is he defending, the people of the city, there all gone, the city itself? With all the damage I have been doing in the clunky ass batmobile I think not. 

Let us now talk about the DLC….the 5 minute DLC, this brings back my point along time ago that DLC is bullshit and to not buy into it, ever, yet we keep on giving money to companies and they keep ripping us off, granted this DLC was free with the game but, come on there is showing your fans a good time and there is just saying this is it from us so we put no time into it at all.

There is a lot more I could bag on over this game, from the crappy character handling aka the death of Barbara Gordon, infected Joker wannabes, and much more,  I would love keep bagging on it but, I will not. My final thoughts are do not buy at full price the game really is not worth the full admission fee, and don’t buy the DLC.
