Overview
Jeff Mills’ “The Bells” is one of the most iconic tracks in techno history, often called the genre’s anthem. Known for its hypnotic bell melody, driving kick, and euphoric build, it became a staple in DJ sets worldwide. The track was first played live by Mills in 1995 (e.g., at Liquid Room in Tokyo), but it wasn’t officially released until 1997 as part of the Kat Moda EP on his Purpose Maker label. This EP is the original record pressing you’re asking about—no standalone “The Bells” single exists from that era. It has since been repressed multiple times due to massive demand (over 500,000 copies sold across versions).

* Visual Cues: Gold-on-black label design. No “10th Anniversary” or remix mentions. Check for wear from heavy club play—originals often show it.

Jamaica Suk:
Postmodern forms of melodic storytelling and soul rise from the industrial drive of a workout in her evolving sets.
Percussive funk with hard dark rhythm, drive the music identity visible in our nature - day revealing the night, the night making way for the day. Lush and deep samples, hints of melancholic bass guitar, distorted melodies splashing the pulse and layers of a booming production.
It all began when she was 16, her first encounter in learning the bass guitar. Studying jazz throughout school and performing in bands from Grindcore, Mathrock to Shoegaze, she fell in love with hard - driving, distorted industrial sounds and slowly dipped her way into her found love of techno and electronic music.
Suk was inspired by bands like Sun0))), Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Pansonic, and forms of minimalism - especially Steve Reich’s compositions. Studying Reich’s forms gave her respect for the composition aspects of DJ’s in the underground techno and house scene in the Bay Area, that she was becoming involved in.
 By day a jazz musician and night a DJ in San Francisco, throwing underground and monthly parties at warehouses & 222 hyde street she couldn’t deny the pulsating sounds drifting out of Europe.
After graduating from Pyramind in San Francisco studying Audio Engineering - In 2012, a haphazard trip to Europe for inspiration pulled her in so deep, she fell in love with the city of Berlin and its seasoned party culture, historical roots, and liberal mindsets - so she stayed. Currently residing in Berlin, she’s spent her time crafting her productions in her music studio built over the hedonic club Wilde Renate.

Oliver Deutschmann:

Berlin's Oliver Deutschmann has gained a reputation over the last 15 years through his pure passion, diverse track selection and an unambiguous mixing ability. Years before he released his first EPs he had already set himself on a path that would see him DJ all over the world, eventually leading to his adopted home of Berghain where he has lit up both rooms of the club dozens of times since first playing there almost ten years ago. Deutschmann displays a distinct unwillingness to be pigeonholed in any one style, and is right at home whether he's warming things up with an understated house groove or thrashing the big rooms with his grandiose brand of techno.
While honing his abilities at the controls, he also began testing the waters of production and label ownership, and has since created four labels: Vidab, Falkplatz, Slim Audio and the vinyl only imprint GKNSTR. Releases on Soma, Aim, Caduceus, Etruria Beat, Mobilee, and his own imprints culminated in his 2013 debut album, 'Out of the Dark,' that Resident Advisor described to be "as potent as any techno album released in the last few years." As an impassioned DJ, producer, and label owner, Deutschmann has ensured that his position in the forefront was never a fleeting one, and with numerous EP's and a second album on the way, it looks like things will stay that way.

Listen here to the tenth and last hour of my 10h set that I played for my birthday in 2014 at the legendary Output Club in Brooklyn. 

How I miss DJing in clubs, in front of all of you and how I miss Output Club and those special all night long nights that I usually did in December around my birthday. This set, which you just got hour by hour on a weekly basis on AMFM, was one of the longer ones. I started at 11 pm as far as I remember and according to my recording, I ended at 9 in the morning. Output was such a special place with an amazing sound system and DJ booth, it was always such a pleasure playing there. You sometimes take things for granted as long as you have them. Output Club had to close down end of 2018. I was very sad then and somehow I am even more now, as these days seem so long ago and I have no idea when I get to do something similar again in NYC. I miss it. I miss the city and its people. I have always had a great relationship with NYC since I started to play there in the late 90’s for the legendary Monday nights at Sullivan Bar, organised by @christiansmith. Time goes by so fast, if we don’t learn to appreciate the moment more, it will all just become a faint memory. Stay healthy everyone and I really hope I will get to see you all on some dance floor again. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
