Chris liebing

Fuse is a disco at 208 rue Blaes in the Marolles district of the Belgian capital Brussels. The business was opened in 1994 and has a capacity of 800 people.

The location of the current Fuse initially housed a neighborhood cinema that changed its name several times: Cinema Blaes (1925-1933), Cinema Iris (1934-1940) and finally Cinema R.A.F. (1947-71). Later Le Disque Rouge, a disco where many Spaniards came here. This business was taken over by the West Flemish Thierry Coppens and Peter Decuypere, who turned it into disco Fuse in 1994.

Coppens has organized the gay party La Demence since 1989, which has taken place every month in the Fuse since then. Together with Decuypere he saw a bright future for the music genre techno and the Fuse became one of the best techno clubs in the world. The business was also named best club in Belgium by the Belgian entertainment magazine Nightcode and DJ Pierre as the best Belgian resident DJ.

Peter Decuypere left Fuse in 1997 to focus on his event I Love Techno in Ghent. Thierry Coppens sold discotheque Fuse at the end of 2007 to his friends Nick Ramoudt and Dominique Martens in order to dedicate himself entirely to La Demence.

In 2013, Fuse, as the best Belgian discotheque, finished 34th on the DJ Magazine's list of 100 best clubs in the world. Fuse was praised for its timelessness and quirky character and "the new lasers and LED screens describe the location as a place where ET would feel at home."

There is so much to say about Stereo in Montreal. But I guess in order to really understand this club that opens at 2 am, serves no alcohol and closes at some point next day, you have to go and experience it, especially that incredible custom made sound system. This place is all about sound and dance. This is the fifth hour of the recording of a night in February 2018, when I played kind of a 6h set, so next week you will get the final part of this set at Stereo... I cannot wait to be back… hope you enjoy the show.

After two years, I went on my first "overseas" trip to the USA, and for me, who also loves very much to tour in the Americas (North and South that is), two years of not going was quite a long time.
My first gig could not have been any better. And this is the 3h set, that you are able to check now on my current AMFM show. Today's show contains the second hour of the set. On the 6th of November I had the pleasure, after more than two years, to play the terrace of the fabulous Space club in Miami again. I feel playing at Space, especially into the early morning hours requires a little different type of setlist, and even more so when the sun starts to come up. So I specially prepared a “terrace” set and included some of my old time faves in combination with new great things. Hiroko Yamamura opened with a beautifully flowing selection and set the mood for the whole night and morning. I started at 4am and ended up playing for 5h which was so much fun, especially dropping some of my all time classics again, something I didn’t do for a while. Well you can listen to the whole thing now and make your own verdict. Today´s show contains the fifth and last hour of the set. Hope you enjoy. Oh and by the way, some news for you and as you have been reading so far, you deserve to know:) Since I restarted my CLR label this year,  I decided that I will bring back the CLR Podcast once a month with a special DJ set by the artists who release on the label. This week´s #AMFM show is the third and last hour of the set that I played at the @Great Wall Festival in Beijing China. This gig was the third in a row of my little Asia tour in May, which also brought me to Seoul and Tokyo the nights before. Great nights, and because of that and our flight schedule, we arrived in China with very little sleep. But who needs sleep when you have the Great Wall to visit. Our amazing host Yucheng took us to visit the wall prior to my gig at the festival, and this little sightseeing tour was quite fantastic. As we arrived at the festival, Carl Craig played a banging set on quite a stage that was designed in a historical fashion with an army of Chinese clay soldiers standing left and right and a DJ booth that was set in an old horse carriage. Now imagine all this, set right in front of beautiful mountains with parts of the Great Wall of China as a backdrop. I had a great time playing there, the energy was so good, but sadly due to increasing rain, I had to finish an hour earlier than the expected 4h set time. Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
