'UMEK's 1605 returns with the ninth instalment of the record label's Desiderati 4 mixed artist series and it features explosive techno tracks by Heerhorst, AKKI (DE), Dok & Martin and Luca Gaeta.

All of the artists on this release have previously featured on 1605 and the tracks have been hand-picked by UMEK who has meticulously road-tested them in his DJ sets.

Heerhorst is a German artist who first appeared on 1605 when he remixed Teenage Mutants and this is his second original track on the imprint after he featured on a previous Desiderati 4 EP. He is also well-known for his tracks on Alula Tunes, Filth on Acid and Octopus.

AKKI (DE)'s a German producer from Frankfurt who is well-known for his music on the Cosmic Boys' Legend in addition to a track previously released on 1605, plus contributions to Monika Kruse's Terminal M and Spartaque's Codex.

Dok & Martin are a Spanish duo who burst onto the scene with their track "Destroyer" on Markantonio's AnalyticTrail and since then they have been at the forefront of the global techno scene. Now boasting an impressive run of releases on influential record labels ranging from Pig&Dan's Elevate to Metodi Hristov's Set About.

Luca Gaeta is an Italian artist from Avellino in Italy who has been making waves on influential record labels such as Spektre's Respekt, Pleasurekraft's Kraftek and Christian Smith's Tronic.

Heerhorst's "Deliver" opens the release with its pulsating bassline and enthralling melody synth that is layered with a hard-hitting kick drum and fast slowing percussion. AKKI (DE)'s "Balthazar" fuses ethereal pads and a monstrous bassline to create a devastating slice of peak-time techno. Dok & Martin's "Want Your Love" mixes Detroit style pads and rave inspired vocals with rolling percussion and a rumbling bassline. Luca Gaeta closes the EP with his track "Moonslide" that blends twisted euphoria with an acid-tinged bassline and the fast-paced groove of rattling percussion.'

Anjunadeep is thrilled to release 'Inhibitions', a colossal collaboration between label favourites Nox Vahn and Joseph Ray.

Lucky fans would've heard 'Inhibitions' in rousing sets over the past six months, including Nox Vahn's set at Anjunadeep Explorations, and Ray's at Anjunadeep Open Air: New York. 'Inhibitions' stands out for its gritty, growling hook that bends through an array of all-enveloping sound design - elements characteristic of both artist's solo work.

The single follows Ray's recent single 'Changing Lanes', and his 2021 collaborative album 'Leave the Bones', written and recorded with Haitian band Lakou Mizik. The latter was celebrated by the likes of NPR, Pitchfork, BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM, Billboard, and The Times. Nox Vahn's prolific output has been supported by the likes of Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1, Rüfüs Du Sol, Lane 8, and Jeremy Olander, and includes hits such as 2020's 'Come Together' and 2019's 'Brainwasher'.

Dubfire & Flug join forces for the ‘Magma’ EP on Chris Liebing’s CLR imprint, landing 27th September 2024. The EP marks SCI+TEC boss and Deep Dish legend Dubfire’s debut on CLR, with Argentinian techno lynchpin Flug returning to the label for the first time since his ‘Sincrodestino’ EP in 2014.

Dubfire & Flug’s ‘Magma’ EP on CLR starts with the title track, which sees crackling dub hits echo up top whilst deep low-end courses beneath its steady groove. ‘Magma’ is a raw and overwhelming force destined for late nights on powerful systems, enthralling dancers with its cavernous drops and frenzied soundscapes. ‘Friction’ then eases us in with whirring, electrifying acid as distant synths inch closer, culminating in a shadowy and hypnotic warehouse cut. With the ‘Magma’ EP, Dubfire and Flug provide us with a set of tracks perfect for peak time, which are guaranteed to create unforgettable high-impact dance floor moments.

Chris Liebing is synonymous with techno. His legacy is long assured, but his craft never stops evolving. Whether as label head, podcast curator, DJ or producer, he continues to challenge himself and his audience to explore new realms in the electronic world. And often ahead of the curve, too, from the early, hard-edged and loopy 90s sound which is back en vogue today, through his more stripped-back turn of the millennium minimalism and onto the cinematic atmospheres and broader alternative electronica of his latest albums on Mute. It's no stretch to say, then, that Chris Liebing's story is closely connected to the story of techno itself. 

Liebing is considered a global techno ambassador, but his ambitious album projects and direct club tracks excite and innovate as much as any new school star. A proudly forward-thinking attitude ensures that is the case as his DJ tools and studio setup constantly evolve. He continues to be an early adopter of emerging technology, too, just as he was with vinyl controllers, Traktor and when leading the way with full hybrid/live DJing. 

These days, Liebing incorporates an ever wider sphere of sound into his own work. After an eight-year break from full lengths, 2018's Burn Slow on Mute was a creative rebirth that received critical acclaim and confounded all expectations. It was a melancholic mediation on gothic moods, looming apocalyptic landscapes and optimistic broken-beat techno that drew from his childhood love of Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and the New Romantic movement. 

Remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp followed alongside a collaborative single with Charlotte De Witte, and 2021 brought a second album on Mute, Another Day. It found Liebing exploring all new ways of expressing both his euphoric and melodic side, all with high-grade technical skill and meticulous sonic craft with a range of collaborators from Miles Cooper Seaton to Polly Scattergood. This exceptional form continued into 2023 as he returned to the club with his Love Those Who Fight With Passion And Faith EP on CLR, a passionate and politically charged call to the dance floor that joined Liebing and Luke Slater’s remix of Depeche Mode’s iconic ‘Ghosts Again’ in the first half of the year. 

Born in Giessen and active ever since the 1990s, Liebing has always platformed the talent around him as much as himself: a long time before they were commonplace, he famously helmed his own CLR podcast. For many years, it was the scene's most influential series, with a who's who of international pioneers at the helm. After that came the equally important AM/FM radio show, but now following a hiatus, the CLR podcast is back and pushing a fresh techno agenda, as is his iconic label of the same name.

In its first chapter, CLR stood for Chris Liebing Records, then Create Learn Realize, and now Create Learn Repeat - a subtle evolution that is at the heart of everything Liebing does. The label will always be synonymous with exciting techno and is now back hosting parties and festival stages. 

Though his music is underpinned by pulsating menace and a stomping sense of drama, Liebing himself is friendly with a famous smile. It is the music that motivates him and the freedom that comes with increased experience. These days there are no limits, no expectations, but a continued love for the art and craft of techno that is taking him down all new creative pathways.
