It’s been that long, 25 years, I can remember the first pair of Technics 1200 Mk2 turntables, ratty, scratched, tone arm broken on one side held together with bluetac,  but delivered a beefy bottom end with a set of Shure M447’s, it was my dream setup.  I barely had enough money to afford a mixer, but when I turned 18 I applied for a credit card and picked up a brand new shiny set of Technics 1200 Mk2 turntables and the mighty Pioneer DJM 600 mixer and the rest is history.

This mix defines what I expect to hear out on a trance floor, too often I’m disappointed and one of the reasons I chose to start performing years ago. Dj’ing for me, is an art form like nothing else, it represents my frequency of expression, something that defines me in my own unique way, emotionally. I play across any / all genre’s as long as the track moves me, emotionally, gets me grooving, has something to get me to internalise, a feeling, thought or emotion, if you know, you know, it’s all about emotion and this mix typifies this, but brings it on like a spartan army.  I was heavily influenced by techno, prog, hard trance, psy trance, you name it, if I liked it, it was in the bag. 

Something I've  wanted to clear up over the years, I never left the music industry, I just took a break and focused on learning the art of producing my own music and as an educator at one of the worlds most prominent creative schools, now as a producer / remixer / educator, with my extensive DJ’ing background, the future, you can only guess, has a place for this sound, my energetic imprint and expression, that’s missing in a big way in Melbourne, let alone across the globe.  I’ve flown the flag for trance here, having supported a great number of my heroes’ (back then) to now carving my own sound and place in the community, respecting there’s always room for those who are passionate and committed to connecting with those equally passionate and those who love this sound, I’ve missed my connection with the fans, you are my people, you really are.  It won’t be long before you’ll find my performances somewhere, so keep your eyes out and remember always one thing, never ever, give up on something you love, instead of ‘giving up’ learn to take a break and look after yourself, without your health you’ll miss the chance to pickup where you left off.

After a long break following Volume Two, I present Volume Three, a careful selection of trance tracks that feature nothing but the finest from now to the recent past. These sets are very personal and you get to understand me emotionally and technically how I believe trance should be mixed & presented, trance has and will always hold a special place in my life.  I've dug deeper into some of the most underplayed and forgotten gems of our time, some difficult to come by and so many missed that they need recognition and airplay and I'm sure you'll full in love with them too.

Pana, The Man. The Myth....(Dec 2004 Promo Mix)

A mix recorded back in Dec 2004 when I was at the peak of my DJ'ing journey playing at virtually every club and trance event in Melbourne, Australia.  

This is a sampling of the tunes that were in my record bag at the time played week in week out, playing on 2 x Technics 1200SL MK2 and a Pioneer DJM600 mixer, the standard at that time.  CDJ's were only just breaking traction with the odd CDJ1000 up on a stage, used purely for promo's I was receiving from producers at the time for tunes not yet pressed to vinyl, what a time to be alive.

If you want a mix that captures that era perfectly (with a few more to come), this is one of them, this isn't a recreation, it's the recording from that time and it showcases the skills to truly standout, way before CDJ's were a thing on a stage and what separated one DJ from the next, it was mixing ability, track selection and the all important journey.

This was the warmup set for Gareth Emery at Room680, this set holds a special meaning, both Steve and I were massively instrumental in pushing this sound around Melbourne and Australia, both Steve and I landed gigs at Godskitchen, Slinky, parts of Australia he went on to play at Summadayze, Two Tribes etc. between us we have supported almost every trance god at that time and thankful we had the chance to meet and share the journey together as mates and most importantly with our loyal fans.  The fans kept pushing us to go further and to constantly keep evolving.  We've played to empty rooms, we've played using the worst equipment, but we carried on our mission to expose this sound to as many people as possible around Australia.  Viva La Trance.

Here's a live peak time vinyl DJ set that I recorded back in 2004  (2 x Technics SL1200 Mk2 & Pioneer DJM 1000 mixer) when I was playing around Melbourne, Room680 (Hawthorn) was probably one the most upfront venues at the time and I was part of the 5am crew, we pushed Uplifting Melodic Trance. Chris Pana Live Vinyl DJ Set @ 5am at Room680 (2004)

A liveset recording dug out from the archives, it's my closing set from Interview feat. Jaytech (Anjunadeep) @ Rydges Carlton Rooftop - July 2011, this was a night of mayhem, rooftop, open air is something else, I was on close duties and went for a proper full on psy finish.  I'm a huge fan of psy trance, especially the earlier progressive stuff and this set is a selection of the tracks that were killer at that time.

I was DJ'ing in Ableton Live for this event with a Macbook Pro, Vestax VCM 600 midi controller & RME Fireface UC audio interface, still use them to this day, there's nothing better.

One of the last demo mixes I recorded on vinyl (2 x 1200'S and a DJM 600) before I made the switch to digital that I used to hand out in large quantities on CD at performances immediately after I finished my set.

I recorded this back in 2005 and includes an assortment of quality progressive trance tunes that I was belting out week in week out at clubs and festivals all over Melboure.

I may record a follow up to this series with records that never made their way to a recorded set or mix because the feeling of mixing on vinyl and the sound of a needle tracking and popping has no parallel.

A vinyl mix dug out from the archives, nothing but the sound of crisp vinyl and quality progressive trance bearing the Chris Pana stamp of quality....This was the very last liveset I recorded before I took a hiatus from music and the Melbourne music scene back in late 2005/2006. I can't recall which event I took the recording onto my minidisc recorder exactly, but Summadayze 2006 Trance after party w/ Eddie Halliwell comes to mind because all I can remember was walking into Metro (now Palace) and I was scheduled to play closing set right after Nick Compound up stairs in the room that overlooked the main dancefloor, there were hardly any speakers left working cos the fucktard dj's before me destroyed them playing in the red, seriously too much gear and playing = this scenario.....all that was left was one small speaker in the ceiling and my foldback - I quickly turned the foldback to the crowd, cranked the cunt and mixed through my headphones ;) Anyway, in my mind this mix reflects the very best trance that was being played at that time.  Kick back and enjoy it's an absolute cracker.

Early on in his career Chris had the privilege of spinning vinyl during the golden era of trance between 2001 - 2005 around Melbourne and parts of Australia, it saw him partner and perform at some of Australia's biggest dance festivals & Radio shows along with some of the following artists  and brands including - Future Entertainment, SummaDayze, Slinky, Godskitchen, Advent*jah, Summadayze (& Afterparties), Ferry Corsten’s World Tour, Christopher Lawrence tour, Guy Ornadel, Mauro Picotto, Marco V, Gareth Emery, Solarstone, Jaytech, John 00 Fleming, Armin Van Buuren,  Gabriel & Dresden, BT (Live), Nick Warren, Hybrid, Kyau vs Albert, Tiesto, Ronald Van Gelderen, Dave Joy, Sample Gee, K90, Pulsar, Steve Helstrip (The Thrillseekers), Push (M.I.K.E), Above and Beyond, Adam White, A*S*Y*S, Alphazone, Kiss FM Club lunch, DiFM - Needle Damage monthly radio show and many more. Having travelled for gigs interstate (ARQ in Sydney and Red Gecko in Canberra as headlining act) among many many more.

After a lengthy hiatus to begin a family and focus on other interests, in 2017, he returned to his musical roots that see's him actively producing bootlegs, edits, rework's (remixes) mashups & original works as well as studying at Abbey Road's Melbourne campus in 2019 that then led him to teaching at United Pop (Melbourne) over the course of 2020 / 2021.  Chris' passion for bringing up the next flock of talent is massive, spending his time focusing on getting up and coming musicians and artists familiar with Ableton Live and most importantly aspects of music theory for the electronic artist.  With musical releases pending and currently set for 2025 / 2026, get ready for a new, fresh and innovative sound and most importantly, a human being who's sole purpose is to lift up anyone he comes in contact with.  Festivals haven't been the same without him and it won't be long until you get a chance to experience his energy and passion through his performances...
