Known for his world-building soundscapes and vibrant creative vision, Belfast-born Dee Montero is a longstanding maestro of the melodic scene. His signature style has led him to work with iconic labels such as Dynamic, Anjunadeep, All Day I Dream, and Knee Deep In Sound, dazzle crowds from Burning Man to Do Not Sit on The Furniture, and travel the world from Bali to the Balearic Isles.

Montero’s ever-evolving sound has drawn from an eclectic selection of inspirations over the years, from retro-futurism to lectures on philosophy or his musical muses such as 80s synth-pop, 90s trance and 00s Balearic beats. His own imprint, Futurescope, is a vision of this aesthetic and ideology built around a sense of modern nostalgia. Through a union of technology, audio and visual artefacts, Montero brings his inner world to life.

Receiving early support from John Digweed, the introspective EP sees Montero dig into deeper organic rhythms. The eponymous lead track opens with ethereal vocals that seemingly chime from an outer world before ascending to a steady stacking beat. Second to ‘Within A Dream’ is ‘One Of Us’ with its moody opening atmosphere that grows into a soul-stirring synth-led melody destined for a dusky sunrise. The final track, ‘Lumina’, flips the previous structure on its head with a bubbling intensity, dissolving into a heavier, more intentional beat flavoured by warping strings.

Combining nostalgic synths, driving percussion and celestial vocals, ‘Within A Dream’ leads the listener to another world where anything is possible.
