The first mix in a series to showcase those that inspire us, it seemed like a no-brainer to kick our series off with the man who influenced our musical tastes more than any other; the Godfather of the Salt Lake City, UT scene, the one and only Chris Sick. This is a mid tempo breaks and house mix, but just one side of Chris' sound. It showcases his innate ability to select highly original, chunky and groovy music and mix it in a way that melts and fuses vibes and basslines, telling a journey through tempo changes, juxtaposition and harmony.
We hope you enjoy the ride as much as we do.

Hand Selected Mix Series 001:  Chris Sick

Exactly as the title suggests - beautiful. Big, round break leads into an airy, beautiful vocal repetition of "I am beautiful" over gorgeous layers of spacey synths. The lead synth comes in with a sharper stab vibe in melody than harmonizes with the layers of pads and spacey synths. Vocal rambling heavily effected in the breakdown, the song comes back in on an incredibly high note, building to crescendo!

Thick, minimal House kick opens the track yielding and a swinging, pounding House rhythm and new beat. Subtle breakbeat sub-bass element adds to swinging feel of House. A deep growling bassline leads to keyed airy synth companion followed by the main synth lines stacked to produce an atmospheric yet pumpin House vibe. As the breakdown drops with the synths slowly fading out, a punishing kick leads in a new rhythm that is solid Breakbeats with multiple stylings and dark analogue acid!!

Pretty, glitchy midtempo track that has the vocal, "Music to me is proof of the existance of God; It is so very extraordianrily full of magic; I can listen to music and it makes all the difference". Chanting and airey synths add to the ethereal feel of the track. Several glitchy layers of drum programming contribute to the track's danceability. Track is currently being pressed to red vinyl and will be available on digital stores and vinyl outlets mid december 2010.  Enjoy!

Spooky track written around Halloween! Dark male vocals say, "My voice will help you...open....relax...receptive"...Bassline and beat patterns are dark and chunky with analogue synth lines to compliment it. The vocals in the middle drop out of soloed beats and build to crescendo before the groove pops back in. Definitely not for wussies!

JOHN KELLEY - MOONTRIBE DAYVIBE NYDay 2020

Significant new changes to "Einstein"... He's my favorite mn of all time, and an ode to Einstein needed more complexity, so I added a piano chorus, lots of automation over basslines and space noises. The song is glitchy breakbeats at 115 bpm, so it's a great dancefloor killer. I also raised the volume of Tech N9ne's vocals through out the song; reminds the listener it was a hip hop anthem.

Although impossible to beat the original, I've worked hard to represent it with flair. The rework of "Song to the Siren" is a dark, tribal affair with a glitchy feel. There are two breakdowns where the vocals sing, "Did I dream, you dreamed about me?" It's probably the only easily understood vocal in the original. Her voice is celestial, sexy, and soothing. The breakdowns are mad with computer doodlings of her voice and pings from underwater searching. Enjoy the track and download if you'd like!

Zombies - Time of the Season (Chris Sick remix).

 Considered one of the "Godfathers" of the Salt Lake City scene, he has been active in DJing, producing and promotion for more than 30 years. His beginning was when house music still was known by names like "New Beat", "Acid House", "Rave", "Hip House", & of course, "Techno". Originally he was known as "DJ Mechanized" and was the founder of Mechanized Records and later co-owner with  Kaskade(Ryan Raddon)in Salt Lake City where they both created and promoted and attended many of the first rounds of parties. He has played along side of most major US DJs and a grand host of international talent in 39 States and 3 Countries. He has releases on Sick Sounds and Mechanized Records, and more releases in the pipe works for the coming months. He prefers to play in a fusion style that blends breakbeat driven music (progressive breaks, glitch, nuskool, dubstep and old school funk)with traditional 4/4 dancefloor fare as the backbone of the set. He his a long and respected history playing House since the earliest days of the EDM movement. He has been DJing professionally since 1986, so he has plenty of practice behind the decks. His musical vision has been felt on dancefloors of every size and dimension, from headlining at 10,000 person music festivals, to playing to intimate crowds in exclusive club settings and occasional house parties & after parties. His earliest days in the House music movement had him as resident in some of the most influential clubs of the time, such as Playscool, where his weekly 6 hour sets gained a devout following. In the early 90s he became famed for his moving, beautiful and powerful sunrise sets at parties under the stars in seemingly endless deserts, on lakeside beaches, and up in wooded mountain clearings. In his production work he has spanned the breakbeat genres, especially glitchy breaks and some dubstep, although he is no stranger to creating hard-hitting house made for the dancefloor. In 2015, Chris is set to headline several events that highlights the timeless music that built the foundation of what the EDM evolved into. He has recently relocated to the city of Seattle, where he has wanted to  live since his first gigs there in 1993. He will be there, so please look out for him to start cropping up at local events soon :)Saye "hi"...
