Michael Kuhn aka Mike Grinser Bio:
Michael Kuhn aka Mike Grinser was born 1970 in a little village in the very south of Germany. At a young age he got interested in the record collection of his parents, listening to Johnny Cash, Elivs and other popular records. Soon he began to dub radio shows to cassette and learned to manipulate his tape recorder to play loops and do other funny stuff.

While growing up he successfully refused to learn traditional bavarian intruments and got into DJ'ing at the age of 16. At the end of the 1980's he got hit by electronic dance music and tried to do his own productions. Around that time he got friends with Christian Kreuz aka Dakar and formed the duo Dakar & Grinser.

After relocating to Munich the boys met Peter Wacha, owner of the infamous Techno Club Ultraschall and Disko B records. In 1995 the two managed to release their first record „Shot down in Reno“ on Disko B and the rest is history.

In 2000 Michael moved to Berlin and soon became resident DJ at the nowadays famous Ostgut/Berghain, Panoramabar and in summer times at CDV/Club der Visionäre.

After 15 years of making music, excessive dj'ing and live gigs around the world, Michael felt the need to spend less time at clubs and airports and gain some academic knowledge in the field of recording art's and audio. In 2006 during his audio engineering studies at SAE Berlin and Berklee College of Music, Michael got hired by Tim Xavier Bockmier to work as a freelance mastering engineer at Tim's studio in Berlin. Next to everyday mastering work Mike got the opportunity to learn cutting master lacquers on an American Scully/Westrex system.

In 2010 Mike and Tim joined forces and established Manmade Mastering KG a mastering and cutting studio based in Berlin, Kreuzberg. Step by step the studio got upgraded and equipped with a german Neumann VMS70 lathe. In 2012 Michael teamed up with Christoph Grote-Beverborg, owner of Dubplates & Mastering, the two studios collaborated and Michael started next to his career as owner and engineer at Manmade Mastering to freelance at Dubplates & Mastering.

Mike soon established himself as a well respected mastering and cutting engineer. Next to his every day studio work he started to share his knowledge as a lecturer for mastering at SAE, Berlin in 2011.

For the 10th episode of the Quirks mix series, we give you the parisian legend, D'Julz. 

Through a career spanning two and half decades, D’Julz has practically done it all. He began spinning in Paris, often playing his home city’s much-talked about early 90’s raves and legendary clubs, all before moving to New–York in 1993 to further hone his skills and cement his reputation as a true taste-maker in his field. The rest, as they say, is history.

D’Julz remains as enthusiastic as he was when he first started DJing, as his Bass Culture label goes from strength to strength, clocking over 50 releases and he continues to traverse the globe rocking dance floors every weekend.
A true legend and one who will continue to be at the top of his game…

As the sun rose on Bjørn’s third birthday, I found myself reflecting on the journey that brought us here—three years of love, growth that feels like a dream. 

I imagined life as a gentle journey, where the days blend into one another like waves meeting the shore. From his first laugh to the way his tiny hands reached for mine.

The song I wrote for him is a reflection of how life seems to pace forward in a dreamy haze yet deeply real.

Christian “Solaris” Berg, a key figure in Norway’s electronic music scene, has spent decades shaping dance floors as a DJ, producer, and label boss. A towering presence in Oslo’s Det Gode Selskab collective, Solaris is renowned for his minimalist aesthetic and fluid connection with audiences.

A former graffiti artist, Solaris found his way into DJing in the late ’90s, inspired by LTJ Bukem and Photek—his DJ alias paying homage to the latter’s iconic LP. 

He launched his career in Trondheim Norway in 2001, co-founding the Beat Foundation collective before moving to London. in 2004, where he refined his style and widened his sonic horizons. 

Befriending artist and DJ Lee Burridge, Solaris was introduced to the sounds of Halo and Hipp-e as well as DJs like Zip and Terry Francis at Fabric London, influences that helped shape his unique approach to DJing and production. 

Since 2002, Solaris has shared studio space with various artists like Kopernik and Karl Fraunhofer, fostering collaborations that revitalized his production work. In 2005, he released his first vinyl on a Kompakt sublabel, marking a pivotal moment in his production journey.

When returning to Norway in 2008, he teamed up with Tod Louie to establish Det Gode Selskab, encompassing a residency, label, and festival.  Today, Solaris runs the Det Gode Selskab record label and event series, which has garnered international support with both vinyl and digital releases featuring a mix of emerging and established artists.

Through his label, sets, and productions, he continues to craft a distinctive sound that resonates across Norway and beyond.
