Time and Tide

I wrote this song circa 2018, when I used to write and perform as a solo artist.
In the spirit of Halloween, I thought I'd dig it out from my archives, re-record some parts and add some additional instruments to bring it back to life.

Lyrics:

Crawling up from beneath
From beneath the dirt and the grass
The stars are out I was greeted by the moon
I turn my head
See my name carved into the stone
No flowers here
No visitors to my bones

Chorus
When the day turns to night
You better run and hide
Cause I am a creature of the night

I will be out of sight
Keeping to the shadows of the night
Just searching for my next delight
When you think your are safe
I will strike you from behind
And drain you of your life

Instruments used:
I either used my Faith Neptune or Mercury Acoustic Guitar, I can't remember which model but I think it was the Neptune - I believe I recorded the guitar by placing just one industry standard Shure SM57 mic in front of the guitar near to the 12th fret.
I used the same mic to record my vocals.

An upbeat pop song which features a brass section and some cool acoustic guitar playing from Saul B. To me, it’s ended up with a retro 70’s feel even though I used a whole heap of synths to add some extra interest. I hope the arrangement works and I really hope you enjoy listening!

El Pianista

I started writing songs nearly 40 years ago when I joined a band with my friends in my teens and it’s something that still gives me pleasure.  In that time I’ve filled a few exercise books with songs (of varying quality it has to be said!) and now I enjoy going through them and choosing my favourite ones to record.  All my songs have been recorded very simply, just using GarageBand on my iPad with my guitar and voice and a cheap microphone.  Some of them are new and some were written many years ago, the older ones I’ve labelled Robin Solemn and new ones Joe DeVivre to reflect a change in circumstances.  I’ve recently returned to Soundcloud after a bit of a break following a period of poor health, but I’m much better now and excited to get creating again and looking forward to listening to the wonderful new music by the talented artists on here.  P.S.  They always sound better through headphones.
