Comiston Springs Water House is the first single from the Water of Life album, available to buy digitally at http://wateroflife.bandcamp.com in February 2014. 

A collaboration between Rob St. John and Tommy Perman (ex FOUND), Water of Life uses recordings made with hydrophone, ambient and contact microphone recordings of rivers, spring houses, manhole covers, pub barrel rooms, pipelines and taps across Edinburgh, mixed with the peals and drones of 1960s transistor organs, harmoniums, Swedish micro-synths, drum machines and iPads: a blend of the natural and unnatural; modern and antiquated; hi-fi and lo-fi. Drum beats were sampled from underwater recordings, and reverbs created using the convolution reverb technique to recreate the sonic space of different bodies of water. 

The Comiston Springs provided the first piped water supply to Edinburgh in the 17th Century.  The Water House where the springs converge used to contain strange lead figures of a fox, a hare, a lapwing and a swan: a stone built grotto between air and water.  The Water House now stands derelict on the southern fringes of the city, enclosed by the creep of the suburbs: a blend of the folkloric, pastoral and industrial.  This track contains four tunes for the different animals.
