The virtuoso duo “Marie and Spaceman” and “Christian Bakanic” deliver the goods with an ingenious melancholy-tinged kaleidoscope of sounds, consisting of cello, accordion, which electro maestro “Ulf Lindemann” aka Dunkelbunt stamps with his unmistakable hallmark. The original is to be found on the duo’s album, “Metamorphosis” (LP “020). The remix is available on digital as well as dubplate.

Leohnart - Faraway Lands

My story with The Turbans goes back a few years. I’ve always been a big fan of theirs and we've shared some amazing stage moments (and off-stage moments as well he heee…).  We've played in India together, crushing parties with our infectious dub/gypsy flavour. People loved it, and we loved it too!   

At the time they didn’t have any recording deal, so I suggested to get in touch with Six Degrees, I talked to Bob at the label about it and the rest is history.  
What I've always loved about that band is the intense charge of energy that they have naturally, both on and off the stage. I also love the fact that The Turbans have no frontman or leader- they are all equally important and they all give the same level of contribution to the band.

We performed together in London for their album launch and we absolutely smashed it. They've always had an amazing respect for what I do musically and personally, so after the gig we planned to do something together and this remix is the result. 

I personally picked this track AMAN to be reworked with a different perspective and a different angle. I could feel it had an enormous potential as their next single but felt the track needed a different arrangement and approach in order to make it 100% solid and appealing to every type of music palate.

The song was played without any click so it was very “live” and quite difficult to create a constant solidity all the way through.  I then created a fixed BPM and i adapted every single element to it. It was a very hard job, but the final result is so beautiful that every second i dedicated to this production was 100% worth it.

'Desobediencia’ comes right on time with a global fusion mashup that defies conventional borders. The 4 track EP is a culmination of influences stemming from the groups diverse individual backgrounds Spain, Japan, Italy, U.S. & Hungary. Brooklyn Gypsies bring their signature style of bass heavy synths, live horns, Arabic percussion, string and oud arrangements echoing shades of the Middle East coupled with the Spanish vocalist Carmen Estevez hypnotic vocals floating from her mountain cave in Granada as heard in 'Daw Alsahara'. In addition the group features Senegalese Reggae vocalist Meta Dia on an arrangement of composer Ahmed Wahby’s ‘Allatch Tloumouni’ that embarks from a desert kasbah and emerges at a Brooklyn Reggae Soundsystem. Desobediencia (Disobedience in English) is a call to all who value freedom of thought and nonconformity in a time when sources of information are constantly questioned and selfies are a generations virtual identity. Brooklyn Gypsies look to their ancestors to remind us how we were all once and still can be united.
