I loved Lou Reed, he was an important part of my life. I was lucky to have met him twice. When he passed in 2013 I did a version of this song which was, frankly, terrible. Wrong key for my voice, too many guitars, poor drumming, badly produced etc etc. I'd like to think I've rectified it here.

Yesterday I hauled myself back in front of microphone. It had been my intention to do a cover version of the Hank Williams song 'I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive'. 
Hank was a great song writer. He had a great narrative in his story telling and there was none of that high falutin' arty stuff going on. He spoke of real people, real problems and applied his wit and observational skills accordingly. 
After a quick search for a virtual country drummer in Logic Pro X, I did what I often do - scrap my plans and go for the tangent. In this instance I picked the punk rock drummer, amped the beats up to 140bpm, and plugged in my telecaster. 
After a couple of passes I wondered what would happen if Tom Waits turned up? So, I threw a burning tyre on the fire, and a splash of gasoline (petrol to us Europeans of course, but I feel this needs an American reference here :)).
Great craic ensued even if it meant my vocal chords are now SHOT as I type this, the day after.
