With your blurry night-tainted vision you hardly see the dirt, only the serenity and sweet melancholy of the big B. - my musical declaration of love for my hometown.

It’s the 88th day of the year and it’s piano day!!! 

The piano is such a dynamic and deep instrument. On one hand there seems to be no end to how far a virtuoso pianist can deepen the relationship with the instrument and on the other hand a one year old can have the most meaningful session of his or her life. We have a piano in the middle of our home and almost every day someone in the family get lost in some kind of improvisation with the instrument. Sitting by a piano and just play a few notes and feel the vibrations run thru the instrument and yourself is such a blessing, such a healing moment. I recommend everyone to spend some time with this instrument if you can, everyone can play and feel it.

This track is a special piano improvisation version of my new single "Moonwaker"  I made together with musicians from Tonhalle Orchester Zürich to honour the 88’s day of the year.

It is possible that Jon Brion is the most famous artist you’ve heard but never heard of. His productions, songs and scores have been unavoidable over the past 25 years yet he is still somewhat invisible to the world. It’s hard to know where to start when summing up this genius. Yes, genius is a word that gets falsely banded around but this guy is truly a gift and for that reason we felt an urge to shine a spotlight on his work with artists from around the world covering his songs.

Where to begin…

Firstly, describing best what role Jon plays in the world of music is tricky. He is perhaps best known as a film score composer with his best loved works being Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Punch-Drunk Love, I Heart Huckabees and more recently Lady Bird. As a producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist he has worked with artists as varied as Kanye West, Elliott Smith, Frank Ocean, Best Coast, Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, Evan Dando, Beyonce and the late Mac Miller. Often shying away from the limelight he is very much the guy behind the guy. Despite being the creative force on some of the biggest records of the last decade he is unrecognised in the street, unassuming and humble. A sound guru with an arsenal of obscure vintage gear and limitless ideas, regardless of genre or project he is the man you call when you want to escape the refines of your musical box. In summary he kinda IS music.

Super Fan is extremely proud to present ‘Music by Jon Brion’ The album is a collection of covers from artists across the globe largely focusing on his film scores and self-released, under-appreciated solo record ‘Meaningless’. The record features 12 of his finest compositions and goes some way to paint a picture of his melodic brilliance which at times straddles Gershwin, Brian Wilson and The Beatles. The magic of his music to us communicates a sense of reflective world weariness which is something we can all relate to in 2020. I'm Chris Fordham, a 32 year old multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter. I'm currently writing and recording my own songs and performing the occasional gig around the county and further afield. Alongside my songwriting I also produce experimental and instrumental music under the name 'The Silent Committee' (http://bit.ly/aOCiKw).
