This Track was created at pace for the Disquiet Junto project 0490 "In Conversation".

The recording was taken in 2015 by Tesco Express on West Street in Sheffield. During a soundwalk of the area I was approached by a man, slightly older than myself, who was asking for change. I'd always felt it was a particularly unusual and out of place moment during the soundwalk and had wanted to use the recording in a piece, though I had never got around to it.

The original sample is included in full at the end of the track.

My January 2014 submission for my creative foundation module. This piece explored my budding interest in hybridised ideas, using LFO bass ideas, samples of the amen break and the trumpet from my dubstep piece 'Hello Devil' and elements of glitch.

Glimmer

Dubstep piece written for Sutco's 'Inherit the Wind' production. This was an experiment of mixing Jazz with Dubstep, mirroring the reimagining of the play from the mid 1920's into the present in this production. It was my first attempt writing dubstep and my first fully fledged attempt at sound design for theatre. The piece is still 'un-final' in that I'd love to change the piece to make it better, but feel like it is now in the past.

Hello Devil (Free Download)

Acousmatic piece exploring the relationship of source materials and the hybridisation of electronic dance and acousmatic music. 

The opening materials are made of the composer imitating acousmatic-esque sounds between two stereo microphones, before opening into a sonic exploration of the opening materials.

Rhiddimitation

The first track from 'Between Black and White', this explores elements of glitch and jazz, taking a jazz chord progression as the basis for an extended acousmatic piece.

No Holds Barred (All Bars Held)

Sine On/Sign Off is an exploration of the fusion of acousmatic and minimal ideas. Expanding on the avante-garde techniques used by minimal musicians such as Brian Eno, this piece sits as an extension of the minimalist movement as a whole.

Ecco Kidd was made from music used for a series of five advertisements for Gamer's Rule Radio - which airs on Sheffield Live.







Ecco Kidd

Piece written using the sounds from Vivien Whitaker's 'Lithophone' and 'Power Of Four' sculptures. I tried to be as true to the source materials as possible, maintaining the pitch and, in many cases, elements of the sonic qualities, despite various degrees of manipulation. The piece also contains sea sounds, as a reference to the mood set by Vivien's sculptures, as well as the 'Daughter of the Sea' sculpture. 

The piece was originally written for the Music in the Round 'Silent Art' auction, which raised money for Music in the Round to purchase a new Grand Piano. It premièred at the opening of the auction, where a version suitable for background listening, almost identical to this version, was played as people viewed the sculpture.

When I Was Young I Used to Always Go on the Double Decker Bus on the Carousel

I began making music in my early teens on my first electric guitar. Following fleeting engagements with rock, metal, fingerstyle acoustic and jazz, I began to make electroacoustic/acousmatic music during my studies at the University of Sheffield where I undertook a BMus in Music and MA in Sonic Art. 
Alongside my concert & electronic releases, I have worked in film/TV and radio on both composition and sound design.

While my earlier compositions were in the acousmatic genre, they also drew from styles such as EDM/IDM, Glitch, Minimalism, Drone, Jazz and Ambient.

Since then I have continued creating such music - but am also expecting to release non-acousmatic music - so keep an eye out for singer/songwriter and more pure ambient releases from me in the near future!

In my music, the diverse influence of the full spectrum of sound and genre make up my palette when composing and I strive to deliver truly unique sonic experiences without ever compromising on delivering a satisfying and engaging listening experience.

As of February of 2022, I have become a part of the collaborative of artists at Passed Recordings.
