‘Euphoria’ is about the search of happiness in life and how everyone has to find their own way to achieve it. But it’s also about how the happiness we get from a high is a quicker way to feel fulfilled. Sometimes we get confused between real happiness and instant gratification. I think more so now than ever it’s hard to find what true happiness and fulfillment means to us. We have thousands of distractions that make life more complicated than it has to be. Sometimes it feels like we’re all floating around in confusion, in a surreal state, trying to find what fulfills us, trying to find euphoria.

‘New Friend’ is an experience of seduction and death. A way of escaping into an animalistic fantasy of empowerment. The main character asks the ‘you’ character to give up everything for her, and they do. She holds all the cards, and playfully decides their fate for them.

‘Leave’ is a very raw and emotional song about the fear of opening yourself up to a new relationship. Being scared of getting hurt whilst also being scared of hurting the other person, a feeling that most people can relate to. Because of the minimal production, highlighting the fragile elegance of MAY’s voice, ‘Leave’ doesn’t feel like your ordinary ballad. It guides you through a wave of significant emotions, creating a cathartic-like experience.

‘Counting Hours’ uses the metaphor of being physically trapped in an empty room to describe the feeling of being stuck in your own head. Feeling completely powerless and alone, as if you are never going to break out of this dark place. Whilst the song is melancholic in its subject matter, it is also very energetic, fierce and upbeat, setting the tone for the entire EP, which follows this theme.
