We proudly present Semester Musik 003! We let The Egyptian Lover, who once upon a time brought vinyl from Detroit to Los Angeles, work the decks together with the up-and-coming-talent Chris James from Birmingham. Easinesss from 1984 meets British coolness from 2011 and makes „Just For You“ a stylish avantgarde house track.

A1: Chris „Jamie“ James and Greg „The Egyptian Lover“ Broussard hit the stage. Detroit is burning when these two mix their old-school vinyls. The track builts up slowly, goes along with a bold bassline, adding warmly shimmering chordes from a Rhodes piano, and in the backround you hear the party crowd cheering. „Just for You“ sounds like the sunset in Malibu, licks with the lightness of the waves on Venice beach.

A2: No Gangsta Shit! This is a track for the ladies. Hip Hop meets Slow House full of warmth and sensuality. “It's like that now“, whispers the soul vocal. Sophisticated drum patterns make it a high-toned warm-up piece, with a minimalistic groove of soulfull organ chords that run through the track like an infinite loop, „Lets get intimate“ like a a night that never ends.

B1: We got the hottest remixer from Poland behind the mixer, Marcin Czubala, Polish House Music pioneer and Mobilee Records artist gave „Just For You“ his signature with a deep technoid bass, crisp claps, earthy drums, and a snappy snare: „Like A House Party In The Club“. The remix got countless wow moments, surprises you with a hot female vocal voice, that gives a duet with the straight pearls of wisdom of the The Egyptian Lover: Don't play the record, mix the record! Don´t be a bedroom DJ, be a five star DJ, be all you can be!

B2: Nhan Solo scales down the speed to laid back 100bpm and makes you nod your head with the beat. He opens up his magic box full of sound candys: rattle snakes, chimes, and muffeld saxophones that seem to come directly out of a smoky jazz basement in the 1930s. Head of Semester Musik goes a step further: underlaying the groove with atmospherical sounds he makes the track three-dimensional. Close your eyes and let yourself get carried away by the off-beats towards a break that will blow you away.

Chris James returns to Anabatic after a busy fall and winter with his Heartache and 808's ep. A sick two track EP with the kind of low end that we love at Anabatic. This EP really showcases Chris's development as a producer as he delves into new sounds and rhythms and heavy bass . The first track 'Play With Me' is an 808 break beat monster that bangs it out until a nice and deep break takes you away on a journey into the abyss, and then drops you right back into the heavy bass to keep you going. It's the kind of track that can be played in the middle of banging set or a deep set. On the second track we are given 'No More Secrets.' It brings you right back to those old school rave days with a nostalgic chord progression that gives you chills. It then drops you right in a nice pumping 808 bouncing bass line that will keep the dance floor going all night. We can't say how much more we love this release.

And the year might be young, but we predict this will be one of our highlights for 2012.

"Nothing Else Matters" is a massive peaktime anthem. Cutting-edge production, a massive bassline, anthemic vocals...

The remix by Hot Since 82 transforms the original into an even darker affair, adding spooky synth pads and a slightly techier groove.

For "On &amp; On" James takes similar ingredients as for "Nothing Else Matters" - killer bass, irresistible vocal, massive production - but cooks up a slightly deeper track, perfect to be enjoyed at the earlier or later hours of the night.

Man of the moment Manik NYC delivers a MASSIVE remix for "On &amp; On", adding a subsonic garage-ish bassline, eerie synth stabs, little acid licks and jacking rimshots.

It’s a bit different, perhaps more for the poolside than the club, but as they say variety is the spice of life…

Chris James is based in Birmingham, England and has over the last few years built a sterling reputation as both a DJ, producer and label owner. Playing at key venues such as Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, Empire and Monastery he has also travelled the globe guesting in Ibiza and Australia. His records have been released by labels such as Potty Mouth, Anabatic and Artform as well as on his own much-touted Dubnoir music imprint.
 
This latest release sees Chris deliver the superb ‘Kind of Heavy’, a delightful slice of deep house that fuses a bumping old school bassline, rich melodic parts and heavily effected soulful female vocals to create a timeless record. The original version is followed by a remix from OFF Recordings head honcho Andre Crom who delivers a mix that retains all the character of the original whilst bringing his own style to bear. To close the package the excellent Dale Howard takes the reigns and turns in a mix of ‘Kind of Heavy’ that takes things down a 90’s garage/house influenced route with it’s shuffling drum programming, percussive organ riff and high strings, quality stuff.

My 1st ever mix, consisting of my favourite vinyl's in 2002. This would have been the 1st mix CD i was giving out to promoters in Birmingham, and eventually got me gigs locally at venues / nights such as Spin @ Dragon-Eye, Moon Lounge, 52 Degrees North, Bamboo, Fuel etc.  I would have literally been 17/18 when doing this, and you can probably tell from the BPM being a little faster than usual!!!!

Hopefully it brings back some memories
