Progressive, melodic techno and trance set. Starts at 127BPM, building to 140BPM, with a more relaxed closing track for warming down. I put this set together for tonight's 10k training run-starting slowly finishing fast (hence the increasing BPM). Trance Mix #3

Attention all genres!  Really wanted to put together a chillout mix, inspired by visits to the sunset strip in San Antonio, Ibiza.  Also for my easy long run this week.  First half is downtempo chillout with a nod to Cafe del Mar including tracks from Iceland's Olafur Arnalds and Sigur Rós, Blanke, The Midnight, Kidnap, Thomas Datt, Chicane and The 1975.  Then it's over to Cafe Mambo next door for some deep and progressive house, before returning to Cafe del Mar for a couple of sunset tracks.  Falls by Ennio Morricone is something else.  Also in memory of a couple of close family friends who we sadly lost this year.  To absent friends.  This mix was tricky in parts and required a lot of prep and practice, getting the cue points and key changes right.  I also wanted to capture different emotions such as happiness and sadness but always with an emphasis on uplifting.  I hope I've done it justice.  Enjoy.

Chillout Mix #1

This isn't a genre I was familiar with until recently, it made a refreshing change pulling this one together.  Recorded at 124BPM it returned a maximum heart rate of 144BPM during today’s 35 minute cross trainer session, which is my threshold zone.  The final track-Get Far, Shining Star-is one of my favourites that I first heard back in 2007 on a Judgement Sundays Ibiza mix compilation.  Still sounding good 17 years later!  Enjoy.

140BPM trance/hard dance shorter mix with an emphasis on banging. 8 tracks in just over 30 minutes. I put this together for some quick high intensity workout sessions. Tried and tested-returned a 150BPM max heart rate over a 30 minute cross trainer session. Also going to try a 5k run to it. New releases combined with some older tracks. Ends on a softer note with one of my all time favourite trance classics Marc Et Claude - I Need Your Lovin' released back in 2000. Takes me back to when I first heard it in Play2, San Antonio, Ibiza. Really enjoyed putting this one together as it was built around a track recommended to me by Emzy Lou (track 7,  Code2, Gleave, Fire Devil-Code2 Djs Remix) who I follow here on SoundCloud.  Emzy definately has good taste in music!  Well worth a follow. Had to go a bit harder in and around this track then it's up to 142bpm for a 5 track trance finish.  Hope I've done your track justice Emzy.  Also had to tweak it to include the fantastic Acid Rocker by Ben van Gosh plus track 3 Mart Craig, Last Chance which I heard on Ben's Beatport playlist last night (it's also in his recent Podcast mix, which is brilliant). I had a lot of fun recording this mix.  136bpm to 141bpm put together specifically for a starting slowly/finishing faster 10k training run that I'll be doing later (which I did averaging 8min miles/50mins-did its job!). Trance SRT #7

During a recent visit to Ambleside in the Lake District I sat down with friends and family to make this simple uplifting ambient tune.  Made in The Rock Shop Apartment just above Stock Ghyll, it was fun to do on the rainy days.  

A reminder of all our visits to The Lakes over the years by capturing the sounds and atmosphere of Ambleside in the centre of Lakeland.  This was possibly my parents’ final trip here having spent over 30 years roaming the fells so even more poignant.  It’s thanks to them I discovered it. 

I did the Windermere Marathon twice (2013 & 2014) 26.2 miles around the lake, probably my biggest challenge both mentally and physically.  

The town's name is derived from the Old Norse "Á-mel-sǽtr" which literally translates as "river – sandbank – summer pasture."  

A 3 minute time capsule.  I hope you enjoy it.

Trance SRT #9 Guest Mix with David Watt

Here's a live set from a recent event that I played at.  Garden setting overlooking fields, sunny, warm and very well attended.  Doing my bit to create ambience.  Great prep for “Party on the Patio” a 2 hour ish set that I've got coming up over the August Bank Holiday weekend at The Ferry Boat near Lincoln.  My PA speakers now fully tried and tested!  

As it was a hot sunny day I chose a remix of Club Tropicana by Wham! to open the mix.  The track paid homage to the infamous Pikes Hotel in Ibiza, owned by Tony Pike and frequented by Freddie Mercury (he celebrated his 41st birthday there in 1987) George Michael, Andrew Ridgeley, Grace Jones, Julio Iglesias, Sade, Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and many more.  The video for the track was shot at Pikes Hotel in 1983, which is still going strong to this day.

Is there a Doctor in the Funky Disco House #3 (live set)

Here's two hours from my funky house and nu disco set at "Party on the Patio" an event held at The Ferry Boat in Washingborough near Lincoln.  Large terrace area including a bbq, it was an ideal setting for a DJ set. As this was a family event spanning all generations I put a lot of prep into sourcing tracks with familiarity that would cover everyone.  Great afternoon, thanks to Team Ferry Boat for having me.  Also good to meet the owners of The Birdcage in Lincoln, which is a great live music establishment in the centre of town.  Enjoy.

Lincoln based DJ & Learning Producer | Beats4Exercise 🎧

Hello and thank you for visiting my SoundCloud page. 

Inspired by past and present trips to Ibiza I trained to DJ back in 2000 at a studio in Sheffield on Technics 1210s and the early CDJ 300s so I could record my own exercise to music mixes.

Alongside playing terrace sets with my own gear, I completed a six week Ableton Live music production course at The Lincoln DJ Hub to better understand the structure of electronic dance music.

Also a nod to the DJs, producers, vocalists and record labels who have provided me with an important soundtrack over the years many of whom I’ve come into contact with since posting mixes here.
