Written in 2013, 'Scenes from a Parisian Café' is a collection of 14 concert and educational pieces for beginner to intermediate Bb Clarinet (roughly grades 2 - 5) by UK composer Chris Lawry.

A Shropshire Lass is a short song cycle to commemorate World War 1 and is also a subversive take on A E Housman's A Shropshire Lad poetry, focusing on those left behind at home, particularly in this instance, the Shropshire Lass.

There are six parts to the cycle:

1) When I was one and twenty (Part 1)
2) Along the fields as we came by
3) The street sounds to the soldiers' tread
4) A minutes silence (This was recorded at Pendennis Castle, Falmouth in August 2014 and starts with a World War One trench whistle being fired and finishes with a WW1 canon shot).
5) Be still my soul
6) When I was one and twenty (Part 2)

The wise old owl had not.

2)	He had reached a high rank at an investment bank
But that would not suffice
And being rather devious, quite evil and mischievious
Was stealing in a trice.
(Oh yes! I’m afraid. Oh yes!)

Br)	And for years it ran, Owl’s sneaky plan,
From the bank lots of money he did fleece,
From his money making plot he then bough a yacht
And was sailing far away to Greece.
(Or so he planned....)

3)	Now a trip without trace, to a far off place,
	By himself just wouldn’t do.
	Whilst his stash had grown he’d been living alone,
	And he had no one to woo.
	(Now that just wouldn’t do)

4)	So with amorous intent, online he went
	To an internet dating site.
	And in the first batch, Pussycat was a match,
	To dine out with under candlelight.
	(A most romantic night! )

Br)	And with great sentiment, in the restaurant,
	The Pussycat charmed her beau.
	With eyes that beguile and a beautiful smile
	He proposed that on the trip she’d go.	
(Well that was rather quick, don’t you think? Don’t you think?)



5)	But an owl and a pussycat? Oh how strange!
	But who are we to judge?
	What an owl can do, and to wit and to who,
	And all with a wink and a nudge!
	( U-huh, U-huh! )

6)	But the silly old owl hadn’t covered his tracks,
	He’d been found by the F.B.I.
	It would seem that the glamorous Pussycat,
	Was an agent in disguise!

7)	So the Owl and the Pussycat went to sea
	In a beautiful great big yacht
	But before they left port Owl knew he’d been caught,
	And with huffs and puffs they had him in cuffs,
	And the end of the tale, he was locked up in jail.
	...You see folks, crime just doesn’t pay!

Incy Wincy Spider (Twisted Nursery Rhymes) Solo Version

Well, I've been so busy lately I've had no time to get anything new uploaded, I'm going to make a real effort to get some of my new works online this summer.

However, in a side project, I've recently been collaborating with a new songwriter/composer, Andrew, we're putting together several new books for various choirs. This is one of the first pieces for SAB choir, and Andrew's first concert piece for SAB! This is a demo rendering using EW S/Choirs.

Serendipity [Always Outside Looking In] Demo 170318

Born in Cornwall, UK in 1978, Chris is a freelance composer, arranger, orchestrator and consultant.

﻿﻿Music has always been central to Chris' life. A multi-instrumentalist, he learnt piano, guitar, brass and percussion from a young age, studying with excellent and inspiring teachers which have contributed to his passion and commitment to music.
﻿
Chris studied composition and orchestration with composers Patric Standford, Paul McKinley and Robin Hoffmann, with further work under, amongst others, Dr Mick Wilson and Prof Alan Williams during his Masters in Composition work at the University of Salford - Manchester. 

Chris was commissioned to write a large amount of pieces for Trinity College London's Music Tracks syllabus and was commissioned to re-design their improvisation option for practical exams. He also provided consultancy on their own composition option, and rewrote the aural tests and sight singing books amongst other compositional services for the board.

Increasingly in demand as an arranger, recent clients include several choir and commercial publishers, orchestras and also the Royal Opera House. Get in touch with your requirements.

Chris tutors undergraduates at the OCA ( The Open College of the Arts ), a distance learning Higher Education organisation which is part of the University of the Creative Arts, and blogs on music issues with the other music staff on WeAreOCA. He co-wrote their new Foundation Course in Music and is helping to development their BA (hons) degree in music.
