This is so beautiful.... I really love the sound of a flute.  It is such a great accompaniment to almost any genre.  Well done!

Some of you will be familiar with this tune, and indeed it has been modified to include a bit of audio which was the basis of the theme. This bit of audio is the original recording of Stephen around 1982. I had looked for that recording for decades to be included just before the start off this song. Also, most recently I had redoubled my effort to find it to play for my beautiful wife as  she lay on her death bed. But, alas, I was only to find it the very day after her passing.

As you might imagine, the old cassette tape was full of hiss. So, my good friend and mentor, Sander (https://soundcloud.com/wane-of-summer), volunteered to help subtract that flaw and render Stephen's little voice to crystal clarity. Well, that is very much part of Sander's trademark. Thank you, Sander.

This is a song from a child which has no voice of his own. Having succumbed to the side effects of a childhood vaccination, he was never able to learn the spoken word...though through some miracle he seems to have developed perfect pitch. 

How would I know? Well, if I pick up various objects which can make a tone if they are blown into, though he may have heard it only once before, he will sometimes sing the note as it is being picked up. Blow into that object and, sure enough, he is in tune with it.

He was only about 3 years old when we were trying in vain to get him to speak into a tape recorder. Instead, he came up with this tune, which I decided to just add accompaniment. The original recording actually had his voice on it, but it has been lost over the years.

Yesterday we lost the world's finest jazz and blues Hammond organ player of all time, Joey DeFrancesco.  Joey simply was a legend , a jazz monster and responsible for the resurgence of the classic Hammond sound in so many settings.  Not only did Joey play the organ better than anyone else did or ever had, but he also was a very fine trumpet and tenor sax player - and no one plays both the trumpet and tenor sax in jazz.  But Joey could, did, sang, created 30 albums under his own name, and brought that soulful sound with simply amazing technical and creative abilities.  Difficult to explain the impact that Joey D had on my music, but it just didn't get any better listening to his playing - was fortunate to have seen him several times, including just a few years ago at the Blue Note.  So I'm reposting this blues I recorded about 5 years ago over a teaching backing track that he released.  All the wonderful comping and trio is his work - I just have the lead on this.  RIP Joey.  Damn

To all those who have scared me in the real world in my past, you can no longer scare me. I am not afraid. 

You can threaten me, tell me I am heartless, tell me my music will no longer come to me…and I will not cower. 

I will write…even if it makes you vomit to hear it…I will write it…I will write it unafraid. 

I am not bitter, I just wish I had chosen more carefully who entered my life and how I wished to be treated.  After looking back on my personal history, it has become clear that I see the the good in everyone, even with the rot. But that doesn’t mean I need to open myself to the point of being hurt badly by behaviour that is toxic, manipulative and gaslighting. 

So this music is my response to those who don’t give any heart and care and in return are surprised that there is no heart or care given back to them. 

Yes, I still feel heartless…I will always want to help…always want to connect…but if I am to survive, then I must protect myself from energy that is cruel and knows no shame in how it harms.  

*this music was made today (September 13, 2022). I started at 10am this morning and my music export was at 6pm. I wrote nothing down…it’s all there if you can see it.
