I first heard this at a Roxy Music concert in the early 70's and since then it's been one of my favourite classical pieces of all time - this version is gorgeous! ♥

she wants to change into energy...  pure potential,
but that's hard to do where she lives.
after years of smashing their preconceived notions of her,
she finds that the notions they have now, the ones she created,
are just as limiting.  
she dresses up, wild garb, and walks, reading, to the coffee shop.
she broods over her cocoa, pretends it's coffee.
she pretends she's a top rate-editor,
fills every crease in her forehead with deadlines and meetings with authors.
but the shop owner thinks he knows her, asks the usual questions,
how is work, what's new on campus, and the illusion is shattered.
after many years, the balance has finally tipped
from edgy to twitchy to just plain stagnant.
