On November 12th, 2020, I attended a string instrument concert at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, a highly prestigious art institution in China. This short podcast includes a few clips from this unique concert. The performing quartet consists of two men and two women; the two men play violin, one woman plays viola, and one woman plays cello. What’s really special about this concert is not only how skilled they are in playing their instruments, but how they were able to blend Southern Chinese music with classical Western instrumentation. These musicians even modified the original Chinese songs to make them better fit their specific instruments, and played with unique skills to preserve the special elements of traditional Chinese music. The songs sounded even better with this sense of Western mystery, yet also different from other performances of the same songs using traditional Chinese instruments. Give it a listen!

It’s almost Super Bowl Sunday and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I’ll be breaking down some of the focal points of the game as well as giving a prediction on who is going to win. This is one of the most marketable Super Bowls ever with the GOAT, Tom Brady, on a quest to win his 7th ring and young gunslinger Patrick Mahomes coming to try and claim the throne over the NFL as its premier quarterback.
