Gjendines bådnlåt is a traditional Norwegian folk lullaby which can be traced back to Kaia Gjendine Slålien (1870-1971), a milkmaid from the Jotunheimen area. Well known for her repertoire of songs, she met Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) on several occasions. Many of her ballads and lullabies formed the basis for his 1896 collection of “19 Norwegian Folk Songs – Op.66” which he arranged for the piano. Gjendines bådnlåt is the last piece in the collection. My version of the lullaby is mixing up various versions of the lullaby, as well as including a nyckelharpa solo and my arrangement for nyckelharpa.

Min mor ho tok meg på sitt fang

‘Circles’ is the peaceful debut single from Star Age, whose musical roots as a pianist come full circle with this release. It was recorded on the artist’s Steinway grand that has been passed down through generations. The New York based artist has played on Broadway, in five-star hotels, recorded for artists and created award-winning music as a composer.

Hand-Built Dream was inspired by a visit with my friend and fellow pianist Greg Maroney at his home in rural Pennsylvania. The idyllic, bucolic musical sanctuary he and his partner have created for themselves was such a magical, shining place that I began writing this piece on his Steinway.

Throughout ancient history, the shortest day referred to as Winter Solstice has been a catalyst for joyous celebrations and meaningful rituals across diverse cultures globally. Composed while living in Alaska, Winter Solstice featured in my album Polar Suite, received an artist award from the prestigious Rasmuson Foundation. My music encapsulates the profound essence of winter, a season enveloped in darkness that prompts introspection into our own existence. The journey of a lonesome cello, which, while surrendering to the elements of the Arctic winter, serves as a reminder of how deeply intertwined landscape and emotion are.

Composer, musician and singer Christel Veraart finds the core of her inspiration in the many cultures she has experienced while living and working in various parts of the world. Her music has featured internationally in film, dance and stage productions, and was broadcast nationally and internationally. 

Her latest album Pleiades was awarded with the 2020 Best Ambient Album of the Year. Hired by Google to write the music for one of their Google Doodles, Christel’s compositions range from solo and small ensemble to large orchestra, drawing on a wide variety of musical and cultural influences and include sound design as well. Her music is described as ambient, meditative, avant-garde classical.
