All Souls’ Day, a day of prayer and remembrance for the souls of those who have died, is commemorated on November 2. Intended as a series of invocations for all the souls that left this world, Georg Jacobi wrote the words and Schubert immortalized the music in his Litany for the Feast of All Souls (original: Litanei auf das Fest Aller Seelen) in which each verse concludes with: “All Souls Rest in Peace”. Just like Caccini’s Ave Maria and Franck’s Panis Angelicus, this song has traveled the world with me, its most memorable performance at the remote mission of San Borja, in the middle of the Sonoran desert in Mexico’s Baja California. It was first released on my album Musica Sacra in a version for voice (sung in German) and piano, and now in an arrangement by yours truly.

This famous Argentine song by Astor Piazzolla (words by Horacio Ferrer) is based on a Chiquilín (‘little one’) Piazzolla and Ferrer knew in real life; a poor 11-year-old named Pablo who spends his nights alone on the streets of Buenos Aires selling flowers to patrons of the theater district’s restaurants and cafés, including one by the name of Bachín. A Thin Place, according to a New Age, Celtic belief, is an invisible membrane that separates the conscious world from that of the spirit, where connections are made and spiritual awakening occurs. Composer, musician and singer Christel Veraart finds the core of her inspiration in the many cultures she has experienced while living and working in various parts of the world. Her music has featured internationally in film, dance and stage productions, and was broadcast nationally and internationally. 

Her latest album Pleiades was awarded with the 2020 Best Ambient Album of the Year. Hired by Google to write the music for one of their Google Doodles, Christel’s compositions range from solo and small ensemble to large orchestra, drawing on a wide variety of musical and cultural influences and include sound design as well. Her music is described as ambient, meditative, avant-garde classical.
