Move On

These preludes are dedicated to one in whom I have found the most comfort in my life; my loving wife Melissa. The melodies were inspired by birdsong. I wrote them at my piano in a breakfast nook with three windows overlooking a small yard. In the yard were trees on which the birds would perch and sing their songs. On several occasions my playing became a sort of call and response. I would play a motif, stop to write it down, and in my pause I would hear it again in the voice of a bird outside. Melissa found that so amusing that she used to stop me from writing and insist that I keep playing with the birds. She thought the birds loved my music, but it is the music of the birds to which I owe my gratitude.
