(About the song: this song is a Kleftiko song, from the 16th century onwards during the Ottoman Empire occupation. These songs oftentimes consist off epic tales of “kleftes” (illegal Greek armed groups hidden in the wilderness, surviving in harsh conditions, stealing from the Ottomans for their people and resisting oppression). 

The songs also consist forms of expression of grief and pain as a result of the violent oppression & bloodshed of the occupation period of the Ottoman Empire, 

The songs do not only historically refer to and depict remarkable events during the occupation, they are also a window to the creative expression and feelings of people of the time, conveyed through poetic symbolism and music. 

This song was re arranged and executed by Domnia Samiou, a pioneer of traditional Greek & Byzantine music, with roots from Smyrna, Asia Minor.
