Ian White, or Uncle Ian (as I call him) is my dad's oldest and best friend, and one of the wittiest wordsmiths I've ever known.

Each time he would visit, he'd have a couple of new jokes up his sleeve to tell, and occasionally, he would share with us this funny Christmas whodunnit, a rhyming story that he'd been working on about Santa's favourite fuzzy hat going missing late on a cold and blustery Christmas Eve....

Over the past 30 years, I've heard this poem countless times, each time with new edits or passages. it has been an ongoing labour of love for him, one might even say an obsession, tinkering like a mad scientist to get each turn of phrase, each rhyme, each beat just right.

Even now at 80 years old, Ian continues to go to Sick Kid's Hospital in Toronto each Christmas to share this story with whomever is able to make it down to watch him recite it, beside a cardboard hearth he'd made, and it would be broadcast over the P.A. to kids who weren't well enough to leave their rooms.

I always believed this story had a larger life beyond Sick Kid's, and over the past few years, I pressed him let me help him record it and release it online. To be honest, he didn't really know what that meant, so I'm grateful that he eventually trusted me enough to give it a shot, and the result, as you will hear, is nothing short of a modern Christmas Classic, that will hopefully one day take it's place along side "The Night Before Christmas" and "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas".

So please, snuggle in to that comfy couch by a crackling fire and take a listen to the first installment of this wonderfully heart-warming story.
