When the Rose Is Faded

The 'Gloria Patri' (known as the “lesser doxology”) is a text of immense breadth and substance that defies its brevity. Originating anonymously in the 2nd century A.D. and fixed in liturgical form by the 4th century A.D., it carries the weight of antiquity and reverence. Though the text has traditionally been presented in short, 1-2 minute settings, this new treatment exploits the richness of the text through a more extensive form.

The Gloria Patri’s clear depiction of the Trinity inspired me to structure the work around three homophonic presentations of the text 'Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.' Between these sections lie thematic variations of the “Sicut erat” text, each meant to explore a different dimension of the unfathomable length of eternity.

Dance at the Edge of Everywhere

Christopher Enloe (b. 1997) is a composer of award-winning works, celebrated for their "highly expressive qualities" and "skillful use of expressionism and sonority" (O/Modernt Award Press Release). He is currently pursuing a DMA in Composition and MM in Music Theory Pedagogy at The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, where he studies under Pulitzer- and Grammy-winning composer Kevin Puts.

Christopher's works have been performed in concerts and festivals across the United States and Europe. His collaborators include a diverse array of ensembles and soloists, including the Polish Chamber Choir, O/Modernt Chamber Orchestra, Peabody Symphony Orchestra, violist Nadia Sirota, soprano Ah Young Hong, Ensemble Tacet(i), and Avenue Azure (Ensemble Klang). In the summer of 2023, he served as the Baltimore Symphony's advising composer and discussion panelist for their "AI in A Minor" concert.

Recent awards for his compositions include a BMI Composer Award (2023), the 2025 AGO Pogorzelski-Yankee Award (2023), the O/Modernt Composition Award (2023), Musica Sacra Nova (Second Prize, 2023), an AGO Student Commission (2022), and the John Ness Beck Foundation Award (2019). Christopher has received mentorship from composers Oscar Bettison, Felipe Lara, Dan Forrest, Howard Helvey, Libby Larsen, Steven Sametz, and Samuel Adler in masterclasses and workshops. He participated in the ACDA Choral Composition Masterclass (2017) and the John Ness Beck Choral Composer's Workshop (2019).

In addition to his concert music, Christopher works remotely as an assistant to award-winning film composer Grant Fonda. Christopher has provided additional music, arranging, orchestration, and music editing for clients including Paramount+, FOX Sports, and Amazon.

He holds an MM in Composition from Peabody Conservatory, studying under Michael Hersch, and a BM in Composition from The Master's University. During his high school and undergraduate education, Christopher studied with composers Kevin Memley, Walter Saul, and Grant Fonda. He currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina, where he is an assistant professor of theory and composition at Bob Jones University.
