The Hungarian powerhouse that is Muzzaik returns to Great Stuff to kick off 2014 with a fearsome double-helping of pumping house music. 

Roar leads the charge, with rubbery off-beat bass and rapid-fire riffs hammering away alongside peppy, snappy percussion, all cooked up into a steamroller of a groove. A big snarling breakdown broods with dark tension, with an intense snare roll building things up further and clever FX trickery worked into the fills. It&#8217;s got more than a hint of &#8216;90s hardbag / hi-NRG to it, and is all the better for it.

Gravy continues the theme, with classic house rhythm permeating the hard-hitting beats, fizzing stabs and a rampant b-line dusted off with huge swathes of FX. Pulsing pads in the breakdown work their way around an old skool vox cut-up and ever-rising synths to help set up an enormous drop. Supercharged house music for big rooms.

If you&#8217;ve been looking for a cure for your January blues, try this on for size. Hungarian house at its most explosive.

Barely Alive make their debut release on Disciple Recordings with quite frankly an absolute monster of an EP. Since their first release less than a year ago, the guys have racked up multiple Beatport top 10s, millions of youtube plays and have remixed for Datsik and Getter, Virtual Riot and Astronaut, as well as having some big collaborations in the works! 2014 is going to be a BIG year for Barely Alive with multiple North American tours planned as well as plenty more music where this came from. Keep your eyes on them as they're on the verge of something massive.

Irresistible and authentic.Mihalis Safras & Kiko 2 TsikoCrisp, chunky beats are at the heart of Safras and Kiko's new excursion, punctuated by sprightly off-beat bassline and echoed chord stabs. It's a track that doesn't let up, and that keeps the energy rolling continuously. No stop-start, up and down journeying; just solid momentum. Max Bett 2 Pizza This gorgeous little number gets its colour from a cool, summery, quivering LFOed synth line, equally funky and techy in its texture and bringing a deeper moment to the compilation. It's no snooze-fest though; sublime chime chords, sweet counter melodies and warm bass combine in sumptuous fashion throughout. Danny Serrano with Gonzalez & Gonzalo - Sake Want some no-nonsense techno? You've found it. This rolling tribal-infused groover is a heads down rhythm track, concerned with nothing else but satisfying primal urges. A very useful set builder to keep the energy flowing,Townston & Delgado - Day & NightA deeper cut, driven by a superbly classy bassline, and fleshed out with dusty disco percussion and gently muted chords and pad swathes. It's deep house for sure, but with the requisite energy to make it work on an early dancefloor and not just laidback lounges.Mario Ochoa 2 ChronosYet more dancefloor gold in this shoulder-popping track, whose tight and tidy rhythms are broken up by synth 'n' tribal vocal breakdowns to brilliantly juxtaposing effect. If this doesn't elicit a huge reaction every time it's dropped, we'll eat our proverbial hats.Alexis Cabrera & Matteo Spedicati - Make Me Feel Jazzy, off-kilter organ chords create a groovy yet slightly twisted atmosphere on this peppy little roller, recalling organ classics of the past filtered through the prism of light, seductive tribal-tinged tech house percussion.
