Dancing Wolves is an 8-Part Trombone Choir (5 Tenors and 3 Basses). This composition features a single melody that is fragmented and harmonized throughout. It was composed for the University of Texas Trombone Choir during the Fall of 2023.

Dancing Wolves

Bright Shining Sea was written for Dr. James Brinkmann in the Spring of 2024 for the “Composer’s Read Concert” held at UT Tyler. I had plenty of mixed meter options and ideas, but did not want to go with the extremely rhythmic activity many mixed meter works have. instead, I went for a more playful and memorable melody and stays in major the vast majority of the time.

Children’s Playground is a 5-Part Flute Choir (Piccolo, 4 Flutes, with optional Alto). This composition has several different techniques that are used including canonic writing. This piece was commissioned by the University of Texas at Tyler Flute Choir during the Spring of 2023, and performed in the Fall of the same year.

I wrote Lost & Miracles as a commission by Rayann Rowland for her degree recital. This is a two-movement work (slow-fast). The first movement plays around with the mode (between major and minor) underneath the melody and changing the melody at times. The melody is rarely fractured and is stated almost completely whole throughout the entire movement. Then, the second movement incorporates an odd meter, but still joyful rhythmically, melodically, and harmonically. When listening to this movement, watch out for new melodies, yes, but the listener may be able to hear some reoccurring melodies from the previous movement.

Turn of A New Leaf is a work that was written during the Spring of 2023. I wanted to challenge myself to experiment with writing fragments of a melody/motif that can be played within a major or minor key/mode without losing its character. Throughout the work, it is a fight between major, minor, and simply open sounds that do not sound major or minor. Although this work stresses between all three forms of harmony and melody, the work ends in the major mode to give a sense of completion in the absence of a traditional cadence.
