This song is basically about irrational fears of the unknown (like the dark)and how, despite knowing the fear is irrational, it remains viscerally frightening. 
And then of course, there's always the consideration that there is a monster trying to catch you as you run up the stairs from the basement and unless you run your heart out you'll become its slave or be eatin' or used as bait for other larger animals that taste better to the monster. Maybe we'd all better just run. 

What Was That Behind Me

This I wrote a couple years ago on banjo. I used the lyrics in an ill-fated speech for my brother's wedding (I shudder to think on it). Anyway, I think the song turned out better than the speech did. In particular after my good friend Paul added his two cents with harmonies, keys and upright bass. Paul is a nice guy to work with because he has an ability to take really boring straight forward material and add layers of intrigue. Have a listen and enjoy!

Shadows and Silhouettes

This is another song that, through collaboration with my good friend Paul, was made into something incomparable to what it was before. A simple melody and chord structure with a vaguely ambient sound turned far more emotive. To me at least. Let me know if you think similarly.

Your Castles In The Sky

This song doesn't quite feel finished yet, but hey, why not just post it? It's about inner conflict and trying to find resolution with new ideas. It also touches on the importance of and gratefulness I have for people who stick around even though you don't really have a clue who you are, why you exist or whether you want a stout or an IPA.
 I wrote it using the low E and A string only. Any other strings heard are only accidentally played. I also got a little too excited about instruments programmed into garage band towards the end. I apologize but admit I had a good time.

Threadbare

Continuing a theme of writing about inner conflict, this tune is inspired by a character from my favorite cartoon movie of all time, The Emperor's New Groove. It's from the perspective of Yzma's henchman, Kronk, exploring his somewhat dimwitted inner battles over working for a villain, and being a genuinely really nice guy. Hope you enjoy.
