What better way to kick off a new year than with a new project? Sure, podcasts are nothing new, but by now the Dekmantel family has grown to the point where we have a lot to shout about. The DJ collective, festival and label are all well established, but we feel we need even more outlets for all the great music we have from our extended family. As such, we are launching a new weekly series that will showcase exclusive mixes from our favourite friends and freaks, with Marcel Dettmann going first. 

Aside from being a supremely tall and long haired human being, Marcel Dettmann is of course one of the techno powerhouses behind Berghain. It is his long, seductive and firmly rooted techno sets that have made the Berlin club, and man himself, so hallowed around the world. Also a fine producer who lays down his own brand of concrete funk on labels like Ostgut Ton, 50Weapons and his own eponymous label, he inaugurates our series with a very special live recording then from New Year’s Eve 2014 at Berghain. The resulting 90 minute set is everything it should be - supple and seductive, then freaky and funky, then deliciously dark and increasingly weird towards the end, so enjoy the ride.

Etching a musical partnership that draws from the combined roots of IDM, house and techno, 
Mind Against are the Italian native but Berlin based project of Alessandro and Federico Fognini.

The biggest cliché of a “sound that’s hard to pin down”, is realer than gravity when it comes to Mind Against. They coax on psychedelic hooks of the 1980s and dance floor anthems bound traditionally to european soil. This backdrop makes for releases and performances that do well against any canvas.

UNCLEAN ist in ostzonaler Tristesse aufgewachsen und vom Skaten zum Punk, zum Industrial, zum Techno gekommen, hat aber nie Kraftwerk gehört. Es fallen die Vorliebe für polarisierende Schnittmengen unterschiedlicher, vor allem musikalischer  Ausdrucksformen auf. Allesamt haben eine gewisse Herausforderung und Ambivalenz gemeinsam. Die Klänge sind vielschichtig reichhaltig. Sie beschreiben ein Narrativ und neigen gern dazu Hörgewohnheiten zu brechen. Stellt sich die berechtigte Frage: "Wie hört man sich das denn an?" (Blixa Bargeld, DNS Wasserturm, 1983).

The b2b mix is recorded at our last Rotate label release event, 13th of may at Club der Visionare in Berlin. Where they played an intense set of 10 hours, starting in the day at 15h till after midnight.
