On the theme of this song
Marcel Proust used to say that we should not explain a work of art, that it is a bit like giving the recipe for a dish that we offer to taste. I am generally more of this opinion but for this piece I will depart from the rule for several reasons: its length its theme its difficult and slow creation.
We often go through less inspired times sometimes even it's a great desert of ideas that seems to extend as far as the eye can see. That’s a bit of what I’ve been through for the past two years, and probably many of us. And then this summer with Aline during our vacation in the city of Nantes we visited an incredible exhibition on hypnosis and in particular the breathtaking installation by artist Tony Oursler (https://tonyoursler.com/state_nonstate- hypnosis) which was the trigger. For some time now, I had in mind the idea of ​​a series of songs around the theme of sleep and dreams (the diva in the Watchmaker Dream was the first of the series) hypnosis then became the central theme. of this second song which took the form of a suite in 7 moments.
Hysteria is a neurosis which is characterized by real physical distress and suffering which are symptoms of conflicts and psychological trauma. At the end of the nineteenth century many famous doctors like Charcot and Freud began to regard hysteria as a disease and try to treat it with hypnosis. (Freud will abandon this technique later, preferring analysis by speaking alone)
The song tells the story of a session like this in its fanciful way.

I also tried to give the mix a very analog color. We worked as much as possible the old-fashioned way with real instruments plugged into tube amps, emulations of old analog synths, and a tube mic for vocals in a tube eq too, and especially trying to play them. taken live. Finally, I used emulations of mythical consoles from the seventies a lot.

Construction
The piece is conceived as a series of "pictures"  alternating of instrumentals and parts sung by Aline. All these parts were recorded in order one after the other in a single session.

I was honored when https://soundcloud.com/graphicsontelevisions asked me to remake ‘Tattlesnakes’ from their fantastic album ‘Pun’. Maybe it’s the wildest one, unpredictable but coherent, it inspired me immediately !!

I've remixed to my taste their original studio stems (drums & keyboards), adding my own vocals, guitars & more... hard recommendation of headphones again !!

Lyrics are from another of my ancient poems, where I played with oxytone & eproparoxytone rhymes (translated below but with lost effect in English).
