Here is the first single and opening track off the forthcoming LP "Return to the Golden Era" by Awon & Phoniks entitled "Midas Touch" . "Return to the Golden Era" will be available on iTunes and at http://www.awonandphoniks.com this coming Tuesday, 7/30/2013.

The album attempts to bring back the golden era boombap sound of New York hip hop in the 90's, with sharp, clever emceeing by Newport News' Awon and smooth, jazzy production by Portland producer Phoniks.

Awon is an American underground hip hop artist who is currently making a name for himself amongst the international hip hop community. Most known for his Goon Trax debut, Beautiful Loser, Awon is also part of the group Awon & Kameleon Beats and a member of the hip hop collective, The Soul Students. Awon has worked on various works with Thomas Prime on Waiting for Tomorrow, and Love Supersedes II.

Phoniks is a 22 year old up and coming producer from Portland who has built a reputation online for his series of hip hop remix albums with classic/old school flare, 2011's "The Tape" and 2013's "Basement Vibes" and "Make Beats, Don't Sleep" have achieved success both domestically and internationally through his Bandcamp website. He has been featured on a number of hip hop blogs and magazines including Respect Mag, gripsquad.com,ughh.com, and whudat.de.

The album, titled "Stories from the Brass Section", is a journey through the mind of the Houston emcee, filled with thought-provoking rhymes over a soundscape of jazzy piano samples, vinyl horn loops, and dusty drum-breaks created by Phoniks. This is EXACTLY what hip-hop could use to pump some life into itself. These cats seem to take their craft seriously and compliment each other like they’ve been doing this for a while. You’re gonna finally find some use for that rewind button with this one.

 Natural High is the first single off the new LP by Awon entitled "Matte Black Soul". Like the album, Natural High takes a more personal approach from Awon. The song deals with the task of maintaining a relationship while perusing his own dreams. He exposes his own flaws while pointing out the positive aspects of his lady. While this track may seem like a typical and smug ode to the opposite sex, it is quite deceptive in its own right. This song is developed with the streets in mind.
