Nach drei (!) Konzept Alben schließt sich der Kreis und  Paradeis Hustlers zWWaII kommen zurück mit ihrem fünften (!) Studio-Album. Präsentiert von dem umtriebigen Berliner Label ‘Studio Schierker’ versammelt PH2-Mastermind El Jefe einige Freunde, unter anderem aus dem Erotic Toy Records-Camp, auf der neuen Scheibe. Da die Zusammenarbeit zwischen El Jefe und Gründungsmitglied DJ BH in 2018 etwas ins Stocken geraten war, ist letzterer nur mit einer Produktion auf der Scheibe vertreten. “Der Schock” hat es dafür umso mehr in sich und ist ein würdiger Abschluss dieses vielseitigen Langspielers, welcher neue Akzente in der Rap-Landschaft zu setzen vermag ohne dabei den gewohnten PH2-Sound einzubüßen. Hardcore-Fans und Neulinge sollten auf ihre Kosten kommen.

Serge Dual PCO meets Rhythm

‘That’s what it will be like’ is the debut album from emerging French artist Théo Martin, who records was thme. Théo was originally raised in the Parisians suburbs and now resides inside the city itself. He has lived a life with music at the fore since childhood, with learning guitar progressing to playing in a band for several years, before he started solo music production as part of a student exchange program.

Théo’s sound gravitates towards melancholic atmospheres, slowly evolving drones and time worn textures. Damaged piano pieces and micro/macro sound environments provide a dreamy backdrop for the listener, as a kind of spiritual shelter to travel to and rest.

These tracks were recorded during an intense period of work and Théo considered his studio as a space where time could slow down, to almost grind to a halt. This experience is captured inside these seven recordings, where time stands on end and the mind can wander. The retrofuturistic artwork (by Arctic Sun) which accompanies this album reflects this perfectly, in a surreal but dreamy glimpse of a daydream set in the clouds. That’s what it will be like.

90`s Type Boom Bap Beat 'THE WORLD' / Nas / Mobb Deep Type Beat / Rap Hip Hop Freestyle Type Beat

South African artist/beatmaker Spoek Mathambo’s latest project is his meditation on the healing properties of bass, having used stripped down bass dubs as therapy during the most strenuous parts of 2020. The title, Hikikomori Blue refers to the Hikikomori social phenomenon of modern-day hermits  (Japanese: ひきこもり or 引きこもり, lit. "pulling inward, being confined"). 

Spoek Mathambo is a South African artist, musician, songwriter & filmmaker. With four critically acclaimed solo albums in his catalogue,  not to mention his collaborative band projects Fantasma and Batuk, and a documentary on SA electronic music (Future Sound of Mzansi), Spoek Mathambo is a prolific creative, showcasing and stretching the limits of electronic music and hip hop.

With Hikikomori Blue, Mathambo boldly strips away the 4/4 beats he’s known for and focuses on the polyrhythmic funk of gnawa gimbri and the belly rattling swing of dub bass. With less focus on the bassdrum, Mathambo keeps time with nimble percussion. The songs are a unique form of the blues, where Spoek Mathambo takes a wry look at matters of the heart, with irreverent rap verses about love gained and love lost.

Né en 1978, Nicolas Mathieu vit et travaille à Nancy. Il est l’auteur de deux romans publiés aux éditions Actes Sud, « Aux animaux la guerre » (2014) et surtout « Leurs enfants après eux » (2018), écrit en dix-huit mois, et qui lui rapporte le Goncourt. Il a depuis signé deux livres : une excellente novella noire de 77 pages, « Rose Royal » (éditions In8, 2019, « histoire d’une quinqua qui boit trop et s’est jurée que plus jamais un mec ne lui mettrait la misère ») et un livre pour enfants, « La grande école », soit les drôles et tendres pensées d’un père célibataire qui regarde pousser son petit garçon, illustré par Pierre-Henry Gomont (Actes Sud, 2020).

« C’est très intimidant d’écrire quand on vient d’un milieu modeste », rappelle, souvent, Nicolas Mathieu. On peut considérer sans se gourer que le petit bleu du Grand-Est a vaincu sa timidité. Deux romans, une novella, quelques nouvelles ici ou là et un récent livre illustré pour enfants : en seulement six ans, ce fils d’une comptable et d’un réparateur d’ascenseur syndiqué CFDT a su amorcer une œuvre reconnaissable au premier regard, à la jonction de sa passion libératrice pour le roman noir et des observations sociologiques « au couteau » d’Annie Ernaux. Après « Aux animaux la guerre », écrit au prix d’un burn-out et publié aux éditions Actes Sud en 2014, Nicolas Mathieu fait dévisser l’ascenseur social en remportant le Goncourt à 40 ans pour « Leurs enfants après eux », traduit en vingt langues et écoulé à 530 000 exemplaires.
« J’écris à la place de mon père. J’écris pour celui que j’étais à chaque fois qu’on m’a humilié. J’écris pour les esclaves dont je suis et qu’on trouve dans le RER, les usines, les open spaces, ceux dont le temps est dévoré par une mécanique sans queue ni tête qui produit de la bêtise et dévore la terre sous nos pieds. J’écris pour tous ceux qui pourraient se dire en contemplant leur vie : est-ce tout ? », confie aussi celui dont la colère reste l’un des carburants. La colère contre « les mensonges, le tout falsifié », contre « ce que la vie fait à nos corps », mais aussi contre lui-même ; longtemps, Nicolas Mathieu a eu honte de ses origines sociales, puis il a eu honte d’avoir eu honte. Dans ce premier épisode, penchons-nous sur ses années lycée, en Lorraine, à Epinal, où tant de choses se sont cristallisées. Il l’avoue désormais avec fierté : « Tout ce que j’ai détesté pendant des années, eh bien, aujourd’hui, je l’ai dans la peau. Mon métier, c’est de montrer cette ambivalence. »
