Chris, founder and head of Plattenkonferenz-Collective, CreDes, with releases on bespmusic next to Afrilounge and Cadenza’s Andomat 3000, teamed up as DJs & Producers for Plattenkonferenz, as artists for Semester Musik and as hosts for their own clubnight at Harry Klein Club / Munich.

‘So True’, is a wonderful piece of romance. A dark bassline, airy guitar strings, bittersweet bells and some cheeky kickin’ female vocals. This one goes straight to your soul and heart.

Sydney club-kid James Pepper has delivered his first instalment of CLUB TRAX, featuring 4 house-heavy originals which are ready and designated for dance floors. 

James’ first instalment of Club Trax sees him introduce 4 driving house cuts - full of power,  warmth and euphoria, giving us an insight into the inspirations that have surrounded JP’s upbringing within the dance music community. Through using his “less is more” approach, we are enriched by four tracks that are hosted by simple yet effective elements that make up a powerful EP full of club originals, which are suitable to be played on large systems in big dance-halls, as well as within the smaller-scale, intimate environments.

The epitome of James’s introduction to the world of dance music came after he unleashed his club-hit Three Drops during the broadcasting of his debut Boiler Room in his home-town, Sydney. Co-written by Black Loops, James would return to his home away from home and visit his old friend Black Loops (Riccardo) in Berlin, where he would begin writing his Club Trax EP. James would begin the creative process Riccardo’s studio while he was away touring throughout the European summer. James began to fall in love with the studio’s  hardware offerings, and in particular - Riccardo’s Roland MC909. The prominent early 2000s groovebox would become the centre piece of production work that makes up the Club Trax EP. 

After returning home to Sydney, JP’s first order of business was to purchase a second hand MC909 from Japan, and begin finishing what he has started in Berlin. With tracks Zwarte Pad & Praise You being an ode to the sound he holds dearest, James attempted to recreate the prominent 90s club-record sound, whilst also offering his own input in the process. 

The remainder of the EP sees tracks Residential Advisor & EVERYONE I LOVE give us an insight into a more new-school era, potentially alluding us to where James could be heading next - whilst also keeping it true to this heavily referenced 90s sound. 


After understanding JPs love for dance music and the influences that got him to where he is today, it will be exciting to hear and see the reactions of this club-record on dance-floors across the world. No frills, just straight forward dance classics & driving house hits, as James Pepper delivers his first instalment of CLUB TRAX VOLUME ONE.

Jonas Saalbach & Samuel Fach - Great Minds Think Alike (Thomas Atzmann Remix) Snippet

Okain, AKA Samuel Thalmann, has been racking up an impressive release schedule over the last few years.  His slick and sophisticated brand of house and techno has graced labels such as Tsuba, BPitch, Memento and Hypercolour over time, and he lands on Luciano’s Cadenza Lab with a superb two track offering.

‘Late Night Meeting’ is a slice of classic Okain; solid and swinging drums and deliciously deep musical touches and stabs, with a wandering male vocal floating over the rhythm section.  A highly polished slab of late night house perfection.

‘Season Two’ again benefits from some sturdy 909 drum programming, the classic piano stabs masked by a filter and playing off the simple bassline and dancing dubbed out keys, reminiscent of the Basic Channel sound perhaps.  It’s a understated arrangement, keeping on the right side of ‘deep’ and not breaking out into a sweat, rather retaining a classy air for the more discerning dancefloors.

▻ Leon how i heard, you play a while as a DJ. How old were you when you started DJing and how did it happen?

I started DJing when I was 17 years old. Since 2012 I've been totally obsessed with techno, listening to different DJ sets for 8-10 hours every day. At that time I wasn't experienced at all with technology or computers, which is why I started playing with vinyl right away because I found it kind of obvious how it works. Then I had my first gig in my hometown of Bielefeld around mid-2014. And that's how it started. 

▻ Where had you made so far your beautifully experience? - What will you always remember?

Im very lucky to have many beautiful experiences as a DJ. One highlight was definitely a five hour Closing Set at Zur Klappe in Berlin in 2019 together with my Techno Mama P-T2. She’s also the reason why I could DJ in Munich in the first place. With her I share most of my best b2b experiences. She always pushes me to play Vinyl and our styles go very well together. Lately I enjoy it a lot to play b2b with my best mate Louis EMP. We are both residents at Garry Klein and co-founded the PERRAS Parties, alongside Manuel Loewe and MRTI. Together we really enjoy diving deep into House music and going into different directions. I really have to say I love playing b2b, its like playing theater. Its a constant dialogue and two or more brains always work better than one. One gig I will always remember was Louis and my last Set at old Harry Klein before it closed for good in the end of may 2023. We were having such a blast, were surrounded by close friends and the crowd just went nuts. That was a very emotional experience and I will cherish that forever. 

▻ Would you also consider working professionally as a DJ?

No, not entirely. I know myself good enough to know that I get bored and uninspired very fast if im doing only one thing for work. I would just love to have a residency again in the place where I live so I can save myself the time of sitting on the train and not being in several places all the time.

▻ As you can see, you work full-time in the theater. You are there an actor right?

Yes. I went to drama academy in Munich from 2015 to 2019 and im working now full time as a theater actor in a small town close to Berlin, which is quite intense because I still DJ mostly in Munich and Bavaria. But I really love my job and I draw a lot of inspiration from it which I also can use for my music and vice versa. I enjoy it very much to express myself in different artistic ways. But since im doing like 4 to 5 plays a year, I will focus on bringing more balance between DJing and theater in the future so i can spend more time with music and production especially. 

▻ How would you rate yourself as a person, what do people say about you? - And what would you want to say to the world in one sentence?

My interests can change in a matter of days. When something excites me, I want to know everything about it. I know more DJs than anyone else, I know who played when in which club. I'm either completely excited and supportive or completely bored, frustrated and misanthropic. I have great difficulty finding a middle ground in my life. Thats sometimes good, sometimes bad. Im very passionate and compassionate but also a bit malicious sometimes, hihi.
