🙋🏻‍♀️ Hey everyone, welcome to the 2020 year-end edition of Undercurrents - it's a bit late as there was a bunch of other content to share before :)

It was spring 2019 when I first discovered Alexander Church and his   productions quickly found a regular place in many of my sets. Fast forward to early last summer when the invite came to collaborate on a new EP - a chance to do vocals for the first time for a project with real depth. It would become Configurations 12, my debut 4-track EP on @configofself just released on Dec.14th. 

Making everything from melodic soundscapes to industrial techno under a range of aliases over the last two decades, Alex draws inspiration from his own deep thinking, academic teachings, and passion for visual media. With his newly formed duo, Common Factors, alongside frequent studio partner @jameswelsh, he just launched the new sub-label Life Scripts January 11th, with the focus on experimental, ambient, electronica and breakbeat sounds. A good taste of which you'll hear in this mix. It's a fitting ending to a crazy year of challenge yet also one of new beginnings.

BIO:
Ane is a DJ and producer of electronic music, living in northern Poland where, surrounded by the Tuchola Forest, she creates electronic music of varied uses - from performance and video art, through dance, to 3D mapping. In her tracks she incorporates recordings of ambient sounds combined with synthesizers as well as ethnic and folk instruments from all around the world.
All of her sets comprise a careful selection of tracks, always telling a story which has to be listened to from the beginning to the end. Growing up with the sounds of Tresor’s dark techno and the 90’s house music, she has ended up mixing techno, Detroit house, afro house, and deep house in her 120-126bpm sets. She has always been fascinated by technical bass, deep vocals, tribal sounds with ethnic melodies, and instrumental music, all being inseparable elements of her work. As a music workshop instructor cooperating with several cultural institutions, she passes her love of music onto young people. She has released six EPs and remixes for Ayako Mori and BMD. Her track ‘Unsettling’ was included in the WMC compilation from Cubek Records in Colombia. Between 2016-2018 she co-created the UHA UHA music project with Kępisty sisters, which combined electronic and acoustic music (vibraphone, cello, and vocal). The result of their collaboration is the "Lazy day" EP released by the German label Nachtwandler Records. As part of her artistic scholarship, she released three tracks based on field recording in 2019. 2019 also saw the release of her first vinyl, "Od snu na jawę" [From dreams to reality]. All the releases are to be available in digital format on XLNT Records in 2020.
