Mark Mywords has been a prominent figure in the Dutch electronic music landscape for quite some years now. As a resident of the infamous Techno Tuesdays nights at Melkweg- and a producer with releases under his belt on well respected labels such as Soulful Techno, Orange Recordings, Minitech Recordings and Manual Music / Manual Deep, Mark always brings quality to the table, without being pinned down in one particular genre.

Now it's time for the first of two confirmed releases on Francesco Pico's Magnitude Recordings this year. 'Links' features three brand new originals which are balancing between the deep- melodic and progressive house genres. All cleverly produced and rich with detail, you'll definitely hear an experienced producer at work here! What's your favorite?

Mark Mywords - Can't Do Nothing

The latest release from Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Forniva and Eleven Sins back to the label for a new EP entitled 'Panama'. 2018 marked the Bosnian duo's first appearance on the Greek imprint, with a contribution to the label's popular 'Technical Progress' series, while Forniva sent on to record a remix for Emi Galvan ion solo capacity. Forging a strong bond with the label in the process, 2020 then saw Forniva return to Movement for his first EP entitled 'Tinkerbell' and a remix of Sean and Dee's massive 'Before The Storm'. Now following collective appearances on MoBlack, Manual Music and Selador, Forniva and Eleven Sins land back on Movement with a three-track showcase alongside a remix from Tom Zeta.

With a blend of contemporary and retro elements it is the title selection which gets the EP underway. Complementing its electric groove are 80s influenced drums and evocative motifs. Unpredictable and catchy, the lead theme is strikingly fresh, weaving its way through mind-bending modulation and onwards amidst a maze of dynamic hits, perfectly setting up indie-esque overlays which spearhead an emotive centrepiece.

Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'Panama' is Tom Zeta. Since first appearing in 2017 with a release on Diynamic, the Dutch producer has gone on to showcase his music via Anjunabeats, Beatfreak, Einmusika and KATERMUKKE. Now following the vocal anthem 'Heist' for Zerothree which got 2021 underway in style, Tom debuts on Movement with a powerful take on 'Panama'. Setting the piece in motion is a bed of tough beats and thunderous bass tones. A deconstructed take on the lead theme beams brightly across the first act, while airy pads elevate mood as layers of finely tuned percussion flow through the framework. Pushing emotion higher, the main break keeps the rhythm locked with emerging atmospheres and tasteful modulation ushering in a commanding drop and powerful finale.

The second selection 'Jumanji' follows suit with an equally impressive display of rhythm, groove and contemporary sounds. Highly stylized across it's six-minute running time, a robust low-end fuels it's swaying cadence, while quirky themes, timely drum fills and emotive overlays unite for a glowing finale. Its subtle charm sets the stage perfectly for the playful sounds of the third and final original 'Kontiki'. Dark and mysterious from the outset, it's shapely low end and undulating rhythms provide momentous drive, while retro arps and haunting atmospheres fill in the framework. Fluttery melodic concepts add depth to the narrative, accented perfectly with clattering drums, before a serene break resets the groove for a buoyant finale. It rounds out an inspired return to Movement for Forniva and Eleven Sins, an artist who continues to push his creative boundaries as 2021 takes shape.

2020 has been a rough year for many; this doesn’t mean 2021 has to start in the same fashion. We are excited to announce that this January Nazca Records presents a throwback to their 14th release, Signals EP by Thimble. What makes it different? Each track of this record is a remix signed by three exceptional Spanish artists: Animal Picnic, M.E.M.O. and Clemente.

This next release has at its core the value of unity and closure within the community. The Viracochas, beings of a different world and the Nazcas, lovers of art, beauty and nature have inspired Los Suruba, fathers of this label to look into their musical community, share the values of our characters with national artists, and bring light upon their creations. The Nazcas and Viracochas have taught us that there is no future without collaboration and passion, and, this new release reveals to us just that. 

The entire E.P. has intense grooves, solid drums, great melodies, ethnic notes and percussive work-outs. Animal Picnic´s remix starts in a very promising way with uplifting crescendo melodies and soft vocals. M.E.M.O. steps in with tones that are more bizarre where sophisticated synths mix with bells and percussions. Last but not least, Clemente rethinks Thimble´s track more progressively and throws in a very discrete sexy male vocal.

‘Electrique Boutique’, has been meticulously curated and crafted throughout the past year by Steve Marx, a highly respected and in demand Sydney based dj with decades of experience playing around the world, and an integral part of onedotsixtwo’s A&R and management team. He has enlisted the talents of a wide spectrum of producers from across the globe, both established and up and coming, to contribute exclusive and previously unreleased material which he has expertly selected and mixed to form a unique and dynamic mix bursting with energy and individuality.

onedotsixtwo’s mantra is ‘Proper Progressive’ and there is no better advocate than Steve Marx for this. Using his innate understanding of the progressive sound he has compiled a stunning collection of tracks from a diverse group of immensely talented producers, a number of which were created specifically for the compilation.

Nick Newman’s ‘Oracle’ sets the scene perfectly with it’s deep rolling groove and haunting pipes, giving way to veteran Belfast producer Chris Cargo’s ‘Wolfie’, setting the tone for what is undoubtedly going to be a wild ride. Next up, Buenos Aires’ Santi Cebrero’s ‘El Canto de la Calandria’ brings the Argentinean progressive flavour into the mix with it’s beautiful soaring melodies and chugging bassline.

The recent hotbed for the progressive sound, Sri Lanka, has given us SAJAY and the stunning ‘Pareidolia’ with it’s sweeping and warped FX, carried forward by a deep rolling bassline and shimmering melodies. Australia’s Zankee Gulati is up next with one of a number of the tracks written specifically for this mix compilation. Zankee has seen a meteoric rise in the past year thanks to universally praised releases on highly respected labels and his track ‘Who Are You?’ demonstrates exactly why with it’s laidback but powerful groove, euphoric melodies and muted, yet wildly infectious vocal hook. 

Now the mix comes into full flow with a duo of Argentine duos back to back, both also with tracks produced specifically for this compilation. First up, Analog Jungs’ ‘Saturnia’ takes us into orbit with a tight galloping kick and razor sharp shakers underpinned by a swooping bassline, sublime keys and a topline with enough energy to power a city. Fellow countrymen Oliver & Tom take the reins next with ‘Skyscraper’, a stunningly crafted piece that soars effortlessly and drives with intent simultaneously. 

The suspenseful and percussive beauty of ‘Sweet Melancholy’ from Colombia’s Zalvador gels effortlessly into the hypnotic and atmospheric ‘Lockdown’ by Russia’s Rise & Fall. Steve Marx then turns the dial back up to 11 with another Argentinean injection of power from Cordoba’s Ivan Aliaga and his beast of a track ‘Mysterious Stranger’. The penultimate track on this outstanding mix compilation comes from Missouri’s Will DeKeizer who’s masterful and emotive ‘Karma’ demonstrates perfectly why he is a name to watch this coming year. Last but not least by any means, and very fittingly, we head back to Sydney, Australia with Balad and his ethereal opus ‘Day and Night’ to close out this progressive masterclass.
