The rise of funk in the late 1960s and early 1970s was a direct response to the Civil Rights movement and represented black musicians being unapologetically black. As Prince said when he inducted Parliament into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, "funk is the force that tore the roof off the sucker that is modern music." As we all take action to further the Black Lives Matter movement, it's important to understand where our music comes from. ALL music is directly descended from black music.

This was one of the first songs I had originally written for my upcoming album, but it didn't end up fitting with the rest of the album stylistically. I still wanted it to see a release, so I finished it as a standalone single instead. Hope you all like it! <3
