Avenue Red's BIG 200 steamroller rolls on to DJ mix 5/10 with the 7th contribution from London-based resident selector, Josh Lentink. In keeping with his trademark sound, here we have another colourful, enlightened, melodically rich mixture of deep house, techno, electro, IDM and breaks in this CD-length payload of divine cuts from Josh's glowing and diverse collection.

"This mix was recorded with a lot of new records (as new mixes often do) and a few oldies chucked in. I decided to bring the tempo down a bit but didn't want full on chug. 'Dreaming Daisies' retrospective/tribute show recorded live on the Three D radio show 'Raw Like Sushi, hosted by Sam Walker and soundtracked by myself on 3rd August 2022. 
Dreaming Daises was an Adelaide late night radio show that ran from 1990-1999, hosted by Georgie Knight with her unique and ethereal tones..... The show essentially soundtracked and educated a generation of dance music lovers in Adelaide, with the positive influence still resonating today... 
This show, mixed and recorded live in the studio, captures the sound of the show and in particular the 92-94 time when the Dutch and Detroit sounds fused with the unique techno transmitted from Adelaide. Hopefully this show either stirs some memories or provides some insights for those unfamiliar with the show or the sounds of the time.... Enjoy :)

Andres Ordonez aka Specter developed and crafted his signature style of the Chicago house sound over a span of 22 years. Specter’s ambience-driven, organic touch exudes an infectious groove that is deeply soulful, sensual, earthy, warm and nocturnal with a good measure of sublime disco, acid house, jazzy inflections and pure funk.

Specter’s interest in house music piqued in the 80′s, when the wunderkind genre blew up in the city of Chicago. Specter would tape and devour the novel, often raw and eventually legendary mixes from radio stations like WBMX, WCYC, WCRX, WKKC and WGCI. Early influences include DJs like Farley Jackmaster Funk, Edward Get Down Crosby, Mickey Oliver, Bobby Q bobby,Lee Collins, Lil Louis and the inimitable Ron Hardy. Specter started DJaying at the age of 15 playing house, disco and italo . Spinning at basement parties around the city and suburbs.When Chicago’s loft-party and rave scene started to take off in the mid-90s, Specter began incorporating the edgier, minimal heat of Detroit techno into his sound.

By 1999 and 2000, Specter had established himself as a respected DJ through his many mix tapes and playing loft parties around the city, He Also co-founded a production label with Damon Lamar aka Baby pop called Tetrode Music. The first EP release from Tetrode dropped in 2000 and became a underground classic. “For All the Music/Mystery”. Following up with the second release “Mediterranean/Defining Moment” in 2002. Tetrode 03 came out two years later in 2004 titled “The Deep Theory Ep”. and The tetrode sessions in 2009.

Awesome mix I acquired at uni, just identified with help from Chris Weir (big up): 'At the last ever Sabresonic in Dec 95, Andrew gave out tapes (hence the caption on the tape “game over”) that were recorded on previous Sabresonic nights'. Game Over Tape 1 is a downtempo selection from Andrew - classic US hip-hop instrumentals, obscure bugged-out beats, crazy samples and general weirdness. I've had a go at a tracklisting below, please leave a comment if you can fill a blank.

Andrew Weatherall - Sabresonic II - Game Over Part 1 (December 1995)

Bringing the heat for our next episode in the podcast series we have a true Chicago house institution. A firm favourite in the Windy City for well over 15 years and one of the most intricate and intelligent selectors we have had the pleasure of hearing, we welcome Andres Ordanez AKA Specter.

Specter has been plying his trade since the hay days of the loft parties and warehouse raves in the late 80s and early 90s, he has become an enigmatic driving force in showcasing the sounds of the infamous Chicago scene. What you will find within this little gem of a mix is an intoxicating blend of the finest house cuts, all intertwined in a neatly crafted package of pure funk driven electronic music. This mix has excited us ever since we got our grubby little paws on it so sit back, relax and enjoy!
