This piece focuses on the use of pulse and rhythm in electroacoustic music
All of the sounds heard were created through the manipulation of a single audio sample of a door being opened and closed. 
The sounds were manipulated using custom built Max/MSP patches

NOTE: THIS PIECE RELIES HEAVILY ON FREQUENCIES BELOW 100Hz AND ABOVE 10000Hz AND AS SUCH REQUIRES AN AUDIO SYSTEM WHICH CAN PLAYBACK SUCH FREQUENCIES

All of the samples used in this piece were created through the manipulation of room noise recorded in the studio in which it was created. Although this piece also explores the use of rhythm in electroacoustic music the main focus of this piece is far more on extremes of frequency, both low and high. As with "OpenDoorShut" the basic pulse of this piece remains steady throughout however unlike that piece there is a lot more freedom in the use of rhythm. The opening section introduces a number of rhythmic motifs, which return throughout the piece, whose lengths are all different multiples of the underlying pulse however the individual transients contained in each are in no way quantized. A number of later sections then use algorithmic or random number generators to determine the placing of samples or the length of phrases, thus creating a false sense of repetition.

Simon is a composer of acoustic and electronic music in a variety of styles and genre’s ranging from rock and jazz, to electroacoustic and classical.

He completed postgraduate studies, receiving a distinction, at the Sonic Arts Research Centre(SARC), Belfast, focussing on the composition of electroacoustic music under the supervision of Dr. Eric Lyon. Prior to this he graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology, receiving first class honours, where he majored in creative music technology and composition under Mark Graham and Dr. Eric Sweeney.

While at WIT he also studied Jazz guitar under Dylan Bible, and has performed in a number of jazz, rock, and electronic groups in addition to giving numerous performances as a solo guitarist and solo electronic artist.
