My Heart's On Fire  (Original)

This song was written by Chuck Berry while in prison and was recorded
in 1964.  This " poor boy" traveled across dozen states by bus, train and
plane to get to his promise land (California).  It was also recorded by
Elvis Presley .  Remember, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Freddy Weller,
had a hit with it also.  Louisiana's own Johnny Allen also had a hit with
it here in cajun land.  Having a little fun with this one.

So much talent from my part of the country (SW Louisiana, SE Texas) George Jones, Tracy Byrd, Mark Chesnutt, George Straight, Janis Joplin, Edgar Winters and the list goes on.  Tracy Lawrence sang with a Louisiana based band in 1988-1990.  He was shot 4 times by robbers in may 1991 which delayed his first album Sticks and Stones.  He was named top new male country vocalist in 1993.  He continues to create great music.  Just one of my favorite Tracy Lawrence songs.

Such a great artist and singer/songwriter.  Real and down to earth
songs that are so relatable.  One of country's greatest.  I love Merle
Haggard and I love this tune.  My thanks to my friend, Lefty Mike,
for his vocals,harp,bass and helping with the recording.  Mike is a 
talented singer/songwriter with great songs on SC.  It would be
a treat to visit his SC page.

Mr. Keb Mo   A style all his own.  For years I have enjoyed and loved his music.  I can relate to this song.  Nobody can do it like Keb, but I wanted to do a little version.

I ran across this old Merle Haggard tune that was written in the 70's
Boy did it hit home and sure fits with things today.  This is another song
that Mike (Lefty Mike) did a little magic and added bass, harp and his

I grew up in the Mississippi Delta on a Louisiana share cropper's farm.   A lot of hard work and a lot of good memories.  Those days are gone now.  Sometimes that farm feels like a long lost friend.   I can feel the wind as it blows through my hair and smell the rain as it approaches and falls on plowed ground.

Lyle Lovette- four Grammy awards.  It is kinda hard to put him in any particular category  Such a great singer, songwriter and performer.  I got to see him a few years ago.  I love his music along with his pals John Hiatt and Guy Clark.

In My Own Mind

Written by the great John Hartford-What a song-Rated #16 on the top 100 songs for the CENTURY.  Glen Campbell, another great picker, singer and performer.  I got to see him in concert years ago here in Lake Charles.  Glen is 80 years old now and in the last stages of Alzheimer.  He is being taken care of in a long term center near Nashville with lots of family around.  Wow, what a legacy.  Thank you Mark for your help,support and great voice. Jerry Reed- I have his autograph on my old Takemine that is just about faded out.  Jerry was just inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year.  Love this man and his music.  I have tried to play his claw type of fingerpicking, but it is so difficult and so many types of tuning.   I dropped my guitar down 1/2 step and played in drop D tuning.  The best I can do is to try and capture a little of his style

He won his first Grammy in 1991 and at age 70 he was named Artist of the Year by the Americana Music Association. Does anyone remember this one?  Dan Fogelberg said if he could write only one song, this would be it.  A tribute to his father, a band director at Bradley University.  Released in 1981 and reached #9 on the Billboard.   
Dan passed away in 2007.  A few years ago I finally learned how to finger pick it enough to get by.  Always loved this one, just picking and singing.

I grew up listening to country music along with early Rock & Roll. Chuck
Berry was nicknamed "Father of Rock & Roll.  With such songs as
Maybellene, Roll Over Beethoven, Rock & Roll Music and Johnny B. Goode he topped the charts in the 1950's.  Every guitar player of my
generation played or tried to play Johnny B Goode.  He died March 18, 2017. No one does it like Chuck Berry, so I decided to do my version of Nadine as a tribute to the man.  Thanks

Tony and just could not keep up with him.  I still love this tune and had to slow it way down and adapt.   Just picking and singing.

Remembering old friends and places with such great images.  This song
was written by Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen Jr,. while they attended
Texas A&M in the late 70's. It was released by Lyle in 1986.  What an American singer and songwriter.  A gem of a song

Oh boy, another one gone. Charley Pride. a sharecropper's son from
Mississippi (I can relate).  I remember listening to Charley while
picking cotton during my childhood.  Charley was the first black man
to become a major star in country music.  He won nearly every major award available to country musicians.  Three grammys, best male vocals,Entertainer of the Year, Country Music Hall of Fame and wow,
at least 30 No. 1 hits.  I died a little with his passing.  Just a humble tribute.  Love you Charley
