There’s an ominous, low-register guitar-like figure interwoven into the fabric of “NYLA.” Surrounding it are echo-y vocals, airy ambience, and splashes of bright, early 1980s new-wave synth melodies. The song has an incessant dirge-y groove reminiscent of the Cure and Joy Division. The sync textures, however, get richer and more colorful in the outro, lending the song a new wave euphoric liftoff. “There is a good vibes nature to the music, almost like a scene from the Joker movie where he’s looking in a mirror and laughing maniacally—it’s madness.
