Church Friends (formerly known as Belie) revolves around the musical ideas of post jazz and free jazz that founder Daniel Van Duerm has become so enamored with while living in Chicago. 
Church Friends was originally conceived as a studio project for the benefit of young engineers at Columbia College Chicago. Comprising of some finest emerging improvisers in Chicago, Church Friends has varying line ups for performances. Personnel included: Brendan McAlinden (drums/percussion), Ethan T. Parcell (drums/percussion/clarinet) Colin O'Malley (bass), Luc Parcell (electric bass), Keenan Foley (alto saxophone), Corbin Andrick (tenor saxophone) Sara Earhart (trumpet), and Adam Thornburg (trombone). 

In an attempt to bring together all friends from "the church of That music," arrangements and compositions are written to accommodate larger and smaller ensembles beyond that of the main quartet and their instruments.
