After being released in 2013 on Circus Maximus and bubbling for a while on the Lisbon underground, Rastronaut & Infestus' ravey tropical beats of Borracha Riddim get a new lease on life on the Upper Cuts free download series. 

Despite their vastly different musical upbringings, the two Lisbon natives bonded over a shared love of Caribbean soundsystem culture, as well the modern bass-heavy sounds of the UK underground and the hedonistic vibes of the 90's rave scene. When they got together in the studio, they challenged themselves to bring all those sounds and scenes together into one track. The result was the vibrant and colorful Borracha Riddim. 

A heavy 112BPM dembow beat provides the backbone for this dancefloor-focused riddim, where playful basslines and distorted sci-fi synths give it a futuristic tropical vibe, before breaking it all down with uplifting rave stabs and all sorts of Jamaican vocal samples. Grab this deliciously tropical hybrid and make sweaty dancefloors even sweatier.

After participating on the Upper Cuts series with Syncopate, an exciting track where Siete Catorce explored his taste for syncopated rhythms, dark ambiances and an avant-garde approach to global sounds, we were instantly hooked and knew we had to have more. Fast-forward one year and we’ve reached the present, where the rising Mexican producer set out to further explore his love of irregular rhythms and the traditional sounds of Latin America, and the result is the mesmerizing ‘Paisajes’.

On his latest 5-track EP released on Enchufada, up-and-coming Mexican producer Siete Catorce cements his position as one of the most innovative artists who are pushing the sounds of Latin America into the future. Inspired by genres such as tribal guarachero or cumbia, which he then reverse-engineers into hypnotic and minimalistic tracks that fiercely defy categorization, Siete Catorce clearly keeps pushing his own boundaries and solidifying his own sound. From Ciudad’s sentimental melodies and imposing bassline to Jungla’s entrancing beats punctuated by airy synths, Sabana’s frantic succession of bleeps and broken beats, Desierto’s sparse yet deeply moving atmosphere, and Playa’s bittersweet playfulness, there’s clearly a rhythmic and emotional theme that binds these tracks together.

Paisajes provides a cinematic look into Siete Catorce’s unique and constantly evolving sonic universe, where natural and urban landscapes are translated into syncopated loops and bittersweet synths with tremendous effect.

Wormfood are proud to present a full EP of remixes of the Abobo Nation Part EP by UK afro electronic pioneers Afriquoi.

We’ve drawn on a wide range of the freshest names in the emerging afro electronic scene, including The Busy Twist (Soundway), LV (Keysound/Brownswood/Hyperdub), Octa Push (Soul Jazz/ Steakhouse/ Enchufada), Wonky Logic (Boom Better) and Ranga.


1. The EP opens with UK afro bass wonderkids The Busy Twist and their full power treatment of Carnabala. Already something of a dancefloor classic + with strong support from Radio 1 Xtra’s Mistajam,  they’ve made it bassier, heavier, and even more danceable, with new vocals from Zongo Abongo straight out of Ghana, adding to the original vocals from K.O.G. Zongo Central!

2. Fresh from releasing their incredible Lingua album, Portugese duo Octa Push bring their own Lusocentric take on bashment, grime, kaduro + UK funky known as ‘afro tuga’ –  giving a catchy, rolling new treatment to the vocals of Nigerian Adedeji Adetayo.

3. Liverpool’s Ranga’s take on To Na Musu is a deep, explorative  meditation on afro house reminiscent of the best of Boddhi Satva and Henrik Schwartz, bringing the kora more to the forefront and adding some spoken word from Afriquoi kora player + vocalist Jally Kebba Susso, explaining that the song is a tribute to the women of the world. What a smoothy….

4. South London’s LV need no introduction to any fans of forward thinking afro dance music, holding the space since 2007 with a host of amazing releases including the seminal ‘Boomslang’ with South Africa’s Okmalumkoolkat, their Routes album on Keysound with Joshua Idehen, Sebenza album on Hyperdub and their collaborations with Spoek Mathambo and latest album on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood. Here they bring a shuffly, uptempo and slightly menacing treatment to the uplifting vocals of Kenya’s Maia von Lekow. Get it on loud!

5. Finishing off the EP is a low slung, brooding treatment of TOYK, adding original thumb piano, crushing synths and wonky, staggering beats to Jago’s rowdy dancehall vocals, showing why he is fast developing a name for himself as one of the most exciting artist in the burgeoning global leftfield hiphop scene.

We here at Man Recordings are extremely happy to present the hot new release by Canadian-Moçambican singer Samito. "I Saw You" is a trans world Afro house and electro inspired club tune about a lost love.

Samito is a singer-songwriter, producer and performer whose distinct blend of electro, afro and indie vibes bear the marks of the three cities he has lived in: Maputo, Cape Town and Montréal. In 2016 Samito made his first mark with his hit “Tiku La Hina” on Costume Records. This record was streamed and played around the world propelling him into the global club scene and countless live stages. 2016 also saw the release of “Cem Cem (feat. Mabika & Muneshine)” on French fashion + music Label Kitsuné. Now he collaborated with Man Rec boss Daniel Haaksman, who co-produced "I Saw You". To put it short, Samito is out to roll!

"I Saw You" features the big voice of the mighty Mabika, a Geneva native, now based in Montréal too, keeping it 100. This renaissance-man is a performer, recording and VFX artist. Mabika formerly has collaborated with Christian Pronovost as well with Samito on various occasions. For "I Saw You", Mabika contributes a super vocal spit in Lingala, a language common in the area of Congo.

The original version received three international remix treatments. The Afro house version comes from Man Recordings´own Daniel Haaksman, sizzling hot new London producer Mina (of Enchufada fame) remixed "I Saw You" into a Naija-pop inspired version. And finally Nairobi´s Jinku, one of the leaders of the East African Wave posse who´s currently putting the new sound of Kenya on the international map.

While some might consider DES a newer artist, he has been on the scene as early as 2012 with his massive single on Moveltraxx, Jumpin Duck. With remixes from Lazy Ants, DJ Earl, Javier Estrada, Vatican Swag and Oui’wack (now Wiwek), Jumpin Duck was a heavy-hitter.   With his last release in 2014 on the Tunacat Label REBIRTH, DES now returns with Milan / Florence, a heavy Afro-bass EP on VOODOO REBEL inspired by a trip from his hometown Milan to VR’s headquarter Florence, with three original tracks and three remixes.   
The EP moves between DES’s banging electro house sound and VR’s more tropical, experimental sound, with remixes from global bass heavy-hitter’s Motin, the Italian Balera Favela ambassador prp, Tunacat’s Boogaloo & Bizt. The title track creates the right tension with a tribal African chant that transforms into a subdriven, powerful cumbia/breakbeat track. Ramen & Churches stands out as the most wild track on the EP, with a high-pitched synth and batucadas on a loopy chant. Florence / Milan is a slow moombahton track, where the Brazilian berimbau meets a digiridoo for a mystical, middle-Eastern feel. 
On the remix side, Motin gives us a superb remix of Florence / Milan, creating a minimal moombahton track. Prp’s remix of Ramen & Churches drives the dance floor into a middle-Eastern journey, with six vibe-heavy minutes of intense teleportation. Last but not least, Boogaloo & Bizt turn the original into a groovy house tune, driven by a hypnotic synth and an irresistible drum pattern.

Eclectic South African house music group, Batuk bring you Dahomey Warrior EP , an impassioned ode to the iconic female warrior tribe of Benin. The song is a uniquely fonky no-nonsense dance-floor stomper driven by Batuk's signature Afro drumming and an infectious bassline. Over the next 6 months, Batuk will release a series of maxi-singles paying tribute in song, to great women of African history,  the brave Dahomey Warrior is the first. 

Vocalist/songwriter Manteiga and producer Spoek Mathambo form part of the renowned South African electronic music collective, BATUK, which was founded in 2015, and has released two albums, Musica da Terra (2015); and Kasi Royalty (2017).
