Glasgow’s disco godfather, the almighty Al Kent, has delivered three eclectic masterpieces, due to take the international dancefloors to a further level of musical consciousness. A further pack of deep dug bombs that confront the functionality in music many labels have always strived for. The A Side keeps every imaginable sound system busy with a drifty percussive harvester adorned with an eclectic instrumentation that splits flesh from bones and mind from soul. “Colder Than Cold” on the B Side is a perfect example of how a dancefloor should sound like. A thick bassdrum, a bass slapped by the fingers of a giant, keys and chords from heaven and horns hailing from the utmost depth of Kalakuta’s soul. Bringing you back to where it all started, the almighty Al Kent does an immense work on an evergreen, you might have bumped into as a munchkin. “Gee Wiz” closes this opus with a orchestral beauty that once gathered all the souls behind what we call music today. ‘Lazy Bones’ will be Future Unit’s third release.  It started with Bill Brewster playing it on his weekly podcast and next THE Ashley Beedle is shouting its Balearic brilliance from the twitter rooftops! 

The original combines an insistent 70’s Italian library music inspired hook with crunchy beats and cosmic synths.  Paired with slacker lyrics, it’s your unofficial alternative summer soundtrack; baggy guitars, eclectic electronica, loose, uplifting sounds, fat, acid basslines and insistent, earworm melodies. 

Remixes come from three highly respected remixers, all drawn to the original through social media word of mouth. 

Iberian edits supremo James Rod takes the lazy hazy beats of the original, plumps and pumps them, adds in washes of reverb, bubbly synths and a general feeling of mañana! 
No introductions needed for Ashley Beedle who takes the playfulness of the original vocal and adds a nice thick slice of deft Rhodes work and funk drumming. The outcome? A lazy day in 70’s San-Fran, looking at the Golden Gate bridge through an acid haze! 
Rubberlips' remix takes the original into big soundscape territory recalling Manc legends World Of Twist. The laid back vibe of the original is taken to a sun lounger for a cocktail and a psychedelic or two with added bass from Randy Martin.

Sometimes there’s a huge talent out there and you desperately want the whole universe to discover it. That’s pretty much the story of parisian label Chuwanaga with young french artist Koji Ono, composer and producer of these four precisely crafted gems, recording everything by himself. Brilliantly mixed by Greita from Disques Flegon, his first EP Incognito is the product of a lot of influences, from Metro Area vibes to the original Britfunk sound. With an inner sense of elegance in the arrangements - something we may link to his japanese heritage ? - the whole EP brings musicality back on the dancefloor. Kalita are proud to announce the first ever official reissue of the holy grail of disco 12” singles, Vance and Suzzanne’s ‘I Can’t Get Along Without You’. A record that deserves its space on the shelf of every collector, DJ and dance music connoisseur, and with original copies now regularly fetching triple figures, it’s time to share this masterpiece with the world once more. In addition, here Kalita accompany the release with a never-before-seen press photo and interview-based liner notes.

Originally privately released in 1980 on Vanton Records, this is the first time that both the record and the label’s story has been told. The product of two members of Crown Heights Affair (Richard Vance Turner and Eleton Johns), the label was established as a way to protect both their musical freedom and copyright that they would have lost had they signed to a major label. With Vanton, they sought to create a sound that combined Eleton’s love for Philadelphia with Richard’s love for New York-based productions.

Vance & Suzzanne consisted of Richard and his childhood friend and fellow band member Suzzanne Slaughter, who was a background singer for many bands in New York including Sister Sledge. The result of a late night writing session between Richard and Eleton and recorded to tape the following day, the record was finished in just twenty-four hours. Yet it’s legacy lives on as one of the most sought-after disco singles in existence.

Two thousand copies of ‘I Can’t Get Along Without You’ were originally pressed to test the market, with the initial plan being to re-record it again at a later date with additional strings. However, the record received such great acclaim by DJs such as Larry Levan that the idea of a re-recording was put on ice. 

Sadly, due to academic and familial commitments of both Richard and Eleton, only one other single was ever released on Vanton Records in 1985. However, we hope that this definitive reissue helps to celebrate one of the best disco records ever put to wax.

The first track on this EP 'Yellow' is nothing but wondrous house with Amplified premiering producer Lay-Far from Moscow, Russia. Lump (also known as Arttu) comes with the excellent disco stomper 'Down With You'. On the flip you find Sygaire and Co. debuting on Amplified as Muddeg. Their 'Luv No Guarantee' is a stunning vocal house bomb. Last but not least disco tweaker extraordinaire Nicholas comes with the amazing slow disco burner 'Wind City.'

Chuwanaga is a french label born in 2017 and based in Paris just like its two founders, parisian deejays @clementine-fr and @saint-james. From jazz-funk to mellow grooves, the label brings back musicality on the dancefloors.
