Italian melody makers Modular Project reveal their debut EP, a nature-dubbed and organic five track effort merging tech house and electronica.

The endeavor kicks off with the nostalgy laden yet upbeat “Leaf”, whose steady bassline gives leeway to a dreamy developing, synth lined harmony. Aptly entitled “Into The Woods”, the second track goes into deep territory via distorted synths, a wave-reminiscent element that remains its central focus til the very last sequence. The woodlandish journey fully unfolds at the third track, a contrastingly darker cut, filled with modular piano bits completed by arpeggiated synths. The title track gets a dubby makeover from Permanent Vacation’s Benjamin Fröhlich who plays upon the nostalgic synth line, turning it into a peak time drama by adding squirmish crowd vocals. Konvex and The Shadow take on a less dramatic, but equally serious approach, stripping off some synths but adding oscillating bleeps and lower pitched drums for extra gravitas.

Tintenfischpilz (Clathrus archeri)
Dieses bizarre, außerirdisch anmutende Wesen wirkt auf den ersten Blick wie ein toter Tintenfisch oder radioaktives Gemüse. Wie in einem Science-Fiction Film sprießen aus einem weißen Hexenei vier bis sechs tentakelartige Arme empor, die sich später sternförmig ausbreiten. Auch Tintenfischpilze locken mit stinkendem Aasgeruch und fleischroter Farbe Schmeißfliegen und Mistkäfer zum Sporentransport an. Er ist ursprünglich keine heimische Art, sondern stammt aus Australien. Erstmals wurde er durch Soldaten, die für die Alliierten-Truppen während des Ersten Weltkrieges kämpften, nach Europa importiert. Dieser wundersame Neubürger verbreitet sich seitdem in Europa, auch durch Vögel, welche die sporenfressenden Insekten verzehrt haben.
Octopus stinkhorn / Devil's fingers (Clathrus archeri)
At first glance, this bizarre, extraterrestrial-looking creature looks like a dead octopus or radioactive vegetables. Almost like in a science fiction film, four to six tentaclelike arms emerge from the white stinkhorn, which later spread out in a star pattern. With its smelly odour of decomposition the octopus stinkhorn also lures blowflies and dung beetles into transporting spores. It is originally not a native species, but comes from Australia. It was first imported to Europe by soldiers who fought for the Allied troops during the First World War. This wondrous new citizen has been spreading across Europe ever since, also with the help of birds which eat spore-consuming insects.
