Cat Daddies Sunday Burning Man 2022

About an hour outside of Barcelona in a charming mountain area called Saint Hilari, Catalunya and Kansas came together in one spectacular and unforgettable wedding. Just like mixing of their different backgrounds and cultures, they wanted dance music that reflected their individual tastes. Electro Swing and Hip Hop may have different rhythms, but they equally make you want to shake that booty.

At this years P Power Party, the Cat Daddies wanted to celebrate our sisters with a set of all female artists and vocalists. For the past several years I have had the great pleasure mixing beats  during Nat Keefe's annual Concert Carnival. It is always such a great event where local musicians come together to collaborate, jam, entertain and raise money for a holiday toy drive. 

December 10, 2015 was the 10th anniversary of Nat's super fun event and I wanted to make an extended mix that included many of the tracks I played that night, plus a few others. I usually find music from the past year that gets my toes tapping. Congratulations Nat and keep up the wonderful and heartfelt work!

For me, sunsets and music go hand in hand
Without either of them life would simply be bland

A moment to rekindle what a tough day takes out of me
A spark, a tingle, a yee-haw, an injection of life’s glee

Something in the colors change this time of year
My eyes listen with an extra keen ear
Hearing what I see and seeing what I hear

Speckles of light with ever more vibrant radiance 
A visual spectrum of notes expressed in beautiful color gradients

I’m a sunset junkie. Winter is always a fun time of year because colors in the sky become more vivid. This (so I’ve read) is due to less haze in the air allowing light to get closer to us. The color gradients are of particular interest to me. You can look at any one area of the sky and only see the most subtle of color changes, but when taken in its entirely the range of color is vibrant and dramatic. I love it when a collection of music takes the same journey.  

As this latest mix was coming together, it sounded to me how I experience sunsets. At the beginning, focus shifts from the typical urban chaos to a moment to reflect and reconnect with nature. A middle that is more fiery, layered and saturated. Finally an ending that surprises you. You know how the sky can almost go dark and then there’s often a last array of vibrant light before the sky rests for the night? So too the music finds a new gear.
