Having acquired a 𝐅𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐱 𝐗-𝟐𝟖𝐇 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫 portastudio in 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 of 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟒 and a 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐕-𝟑𝟎 keyboard the following month, it didn't take long to dawn on me that I needed more equipment. I was dissatisfied with the dryness and flatness of the sounds I was putting down and eventually decided, in 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 of 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟓, to get a reverb unit to enhance my recordings. It took me some time to get used to it, and this is a piano / vocal test that I recorded for fun (I think that shows, too) a few days after I bought it.

I'd been playing around with a combination of two 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐞𝐥 songs and a 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐝 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 (of 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 fame) solo track. 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲'𝐬 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟐 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘯 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 is a bit of a concept album, and the melody line from his hit single "Allentown" is featured over the ending of the final song, "Where's the Orchestra?" I liked that, so I often played the chords (variations on 𝐂 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 and 𝐆𝐦𝐚𝐣𝟕 with the third in the bass) and sang the words. 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐝 did an ambitious piece called "Suite: Clouds, Rain" for his 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟑 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 album, with the "Rain" part featuring similar chords, but in 𝐁𝐛, the key I went with. That became this sort of medley, which I still think works well.

I like this performance as it shows my full vocal range. My voice stayed pretty clean and on key through all of it. I can still do it, but being much older, perhaps not with quite the same clarity and softness.
