So last fall I found myself with two projects with lots of the same sounds and composition. I couldn't make up my mind as to which version to finish, so I thought: why not both?

This feels like a remix of the Ascent mix to me, even though I made both in parallel, but I definitely put a lot more work into this version! If it sounds unconventional to you, well, I'm still somewhat out of the loop on recent electronic music, so I mostly just tried to build up a sound that felt good to me. I'm especially proud of how everything comes together in the last third or so — I think I did all right at building up a nice wall-of-sound effect. Don't be fooled by the first minute — this piece ended up becoming a bit of a journey, and it's definitely got an unexpected turn or two.

Anyway, do you think I overdid it on the reverb?

This is something I made using FL Studio for sequencing and effects; the synthesizers used were all external. I used a Korg Trinity, Behringer Deepmind 6, and Roland JP-8000.

The cover image is a photo of MIDI implementation tables from the Korg Trinity manual, as well as the same from the Behringer Deepmind manual... with of course "Cimylium" and the title edited in afterwards.

In Glasgow, the summer typically lasts the best part of a week and if you're one of the many people unfortunate enough to have a day job, you’re going to see most of it through the office window. I used to work this really sh***y office job and whenever it became too much for me (Which was often the case) I used to look at photos of these perfect Miami beaches and attempt to project myself to that location. Almost like a mental vacation. These idyllic, pictures of purple skies that seemed to be drenched in an eternal amber twilight so thick it was palpable.

That's what I wanted to capture in this track. I wanted to take the listener on a brief mental vacation.
