So last fall I found myself with two projects with lots of the same sounds and composition. I couldn't make up my mind as to which version to finish, so I thought: why not both?

This feels like a remix of the Ascent mix to me, even though I made both in parallel, but I definitely put a lot more work into this version! If it sounds unconventional to you, well, I'm still somewhat out of the loop on recent electronic music, so I mostly just tried to build up a sound that felt good to me. I'm especially proud of how everything comes together in the last third or so — I think I did all right at building up a nice wall-of-sound effect. Don't be fooled by the first minute — this piece ended up becoming a bit of a journey, and it's definitely got an unexpected turn or two.

Anyway, do you think I overdid it on the reverb?

In Glasgow, the summer typically lasts the best part of a week and if you're one of the many people unfortunate enough to have a day job, you’re going to see most of it through the office window. I used to work this really sh***y office job and whenever it became too much for me (Which was often the case) I used to look at photos of these perfect Miami beaches and attempt to project myself to that location. Almost like a mental vacation. These idyllic, pictures of purple skies that seemed to be drenched in an eternal amber twilight so thick it was palpable.

That's what I wanted to capture in this track. I wanted to take the listener on a brief mental vacation.

Created as part of the forthcoming "synthesizers, yo" Discord server album that was organised to promote staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic and doing creative things.


The title is a reference to the "Folding@Home" project that's part of an effort to assist researchers around the world taking up the global fight against COVID-19. - https://apps.foldingathome.org/project?p=14328


Folding@Home is a system where anyone can install a piece of software on their computer and allow the project to use their computer's CPU (and GPU) resources to help compute how proteins develop (at least that's how far my understanding goes). Please go install it if your computer is sitting around doing nothing a lot of the time.
